Staking their claim as future Gods of Rock and Roll, in decemberunderground AFI have made one of the best rock albums released in 2006 so far.   Full text...

Having gone from being a Misfits-inspired punk band to making 2003's considerably sinister major-label debut, Sing the Sorrow, it's no surprise to hear AFI boost its mainstream appeal on Decemberunderground.  Full text...

Entertainment Weekly Rating: 8.3

A decade ago, the Cali bred AFI was a typical bark-and-lunge hardcore band, but by album No. 4 (1999's Black Sails in the Sunset), they'd perfected an eerie, metal-edged Cure sound. Their seventh effort, DECEMBERUNDERGROUND is the most melodically acute distillation of that style yet.   Full text...

Decemberunderground is a remarkable album, and one that is many great things: goth, industrial, punk, electronic, though it isn't the AFI you remember.  Full text...

With a comeback pitched between the indulgent love-metal of HiM and the pubescent pop-punk of Fall Out Boy, AFI's hiatus looks increasingly less like laziness and more like a marketing masterstroke.  Full text...

Greate AFI I Love This band

Sabrina Rating: 10.0

Davey havok is the most amazing, talented, and charismatic person i have evr seen! I love this cd and all the others. This cd is the best cd they have in my opinion made. I have so much repect for all the members of AFI and really encourage everyone to atleast listen to it and if you like it buy it. You should really consider checking out (sing the sorrow,Answer that and stay fashionable and the art of drowning.

Anni Rating: 10.0

AFI is ridiculously skilled and talented. Their lyrics are inspiring, poetic, and true. Davey Havok has a strong, passionate voice. Jade Puget is a great guitarist and Hunter Burgan is a pretty good bass player. And Adam Carson helps hold the band together. I love this album; in facr I think it's better than Sing the Sorrow or the Art of Drowning.

Hafiz Rating: 10.0

Just So Great!the afi's fans at my collage have rise up when they here this album. YEAH!!

chris Rating: 10.0

This album is one of their best ones to ever come out it's amazing!...

Is a very good album but thy change alot of things, davey, jade, adam and hunter are the best mucicians of the world they can do it better

Tori Rating: 9.0

Absolutely wonderful. Although, different, and not quite as good, in my opinion, as Balck Sails and Art of Drowning.

Gabrielle Rating: 10.0

They are so cool! I mean and their video's are really good too. AFI rox hardcore!

(A) Rating: 10.0

Art Of Drowning is better.

AK Rating: 10.0

FREAKING AMAZZZIIINNNNGGGGG BANNNNDDD!!! this album is the best everrrr! it shows so much from them. and the best part is it's not your average, ordinary , same-song album. every song sounds different. Jade Puget is amazing with his guitar, and davey havok with his voice. this band is one of the greatest left in the world.=D

Alex Rating: 10.0

Some people may not like it as much as I do, but I think it rocks hardcore! Jade is as amazing as ever, and Davey's voice is just amazing. I was blown away when I heard this new CD, it's just so different. It's definitely not like the AFI I remember, but it's new, and unique. I love the new energetic approach they took with this extraordinary album; I can't stop listening to it.

Noname Rating: 10.0

Never really like AFI until i heard decemberunderground. This album is one of a kind. Each song has such deep meaning. LOVE IT!!! Can't get enough of AFI.

pacman Rating: 9.0

it was a good album but i expected more since they went mainstream

xAFIx Rating: 10.0

A.F.I. has stunned us throught the years with their music and davey's hair styles. Love em' or Hate em' A.F.I. are how they are with a great cd and unbaliveable screaming!!!!!!!!!!!11

Michele Rating: 10.0

Black Sails in the Sun Set and Sing the Sorrow were amazeing albums, but Decemberunderground is a perfect example of how the band has grown and matured over the years. I love all the cd's

Panik382 Rating: 10.0

DECEMBERUNDERGROUND is ridiculous! The world will never have another group with the depth of AFI and the lyrics can't be compared to anyone!

WeChInYoNg Rating: 10.0

Now this is one brilliant album everyone should get in this year ! Totally amazing and capable of bringing AFI career to a greater level !

Noname Rating: 4.0

I was looking forward to a great album. Sadly, this latest album was a disappointment to me, being a lover of their older style.
It wasn't a BAD album really, I know they put effort into it, but it just didn't work out. It mashes too many music genres together and it just didn't sound good. And, the lyrics don't speak to me the way they did in their past albums. I'll also add that Davey's singing voice sounded so much more beautiful in their older works, especially Sing the Sorrow. Overall, I don't enjoy the new album and everything that came with the it. It does not sound like the AFI that I knew and loved.
But, it is their right as a band to do what they want with their music. They have made it clear that they are a changing and evolving band and they don't like doing the same thing twice. I, as a fan, will respect that and support them no matter what they decide to evolve into.

I LOVE THIS BAND!<3

Sicko.... Rating: 10.0

They are so awesome their music is just totally the best ever every song i can some how relate to i some way i just feel in touch with all of the songe...there aint one that cd that i dont like......just the best eva

FishStick Rating: 6.0

AFI's peak was at "The Art of Drowning". This Album wasent bad, but just isen't there best.

connor Rating: 9.0

This album had no down side. All songs were ones to remember. I think it was one of their most powerful albums. They have stunned the world with their music once again!

Big-BbRrAaNnDdOoNn Rating: 9.0

A.F.I. is the band that has proven that bands can make any kind of music and they will never stop bringing good music to the world

lizy Rating: 8.0

love like winter rox. i dont know why anybody would not like this cd. its awesome!!!!!!! whoever doesnt like this cd is CRAZY with a capital "C"

Kman Rating: 8.0

im not really an AFI fan, but D***, they put out a good album. they have great tracks like Love like winter, Miss murder and Summer Shudder, but, its just not my type, i LOVE rock, but not AFI, thats why i give it 8 black rabbits, out of 10

Mister Rating: 10.0

It is something amazing what AFI represent to us.I'm just wordless about their new album and above. They are something that we all can just imagine.Their songs and words are awesome and i have learned a lot from this words and songs.Unbeliveable how you can become a great person with hearing AFI songs!Let them always exist!

Jess Rating: 3.0

I have listened to AFI from Answer That and Stay Fashionable till now, and I want to know why they gave up their amazing lyrics and soul-inspired tunes for popularity. Even worse, popularity in the twelve-year-old, emo crowd. What good is their opinion? They'll follow anything that looks rebellious, and Decemberunderground is assuredly not. The single from the album, "Miss Murder," is woefully juvenille. What happened to the beautiful metaphors of the other albums? What happened to the symbolism? We went from, "Set fire to my home before I turned and walked back in" ("No Poetic Device") to "take my life." There is no grace in the latter. No higher meaning. It falls dreadfully flat compared to their other albums. Even the song titles spoke of something. Again, "No Poetic Device." Those words are not in the lyrics, but based on the song's content, one can see exactly what they mean. That is what makes art - you feel their intent; they do not have to say it.

I gave this 3 because the tunes, at least, are catchy, but Davey...please, come back.

Agostina Rating: 10.0

I love DECEMBERUNDERGROUND. i also love their previous releases. The new AFI is different, but that doesn't mean that it is bad. I think thta those old AFI fans that don't like the new material should continue listening to the old one, and stop complaining.
This new CD is absolutely amazing. I think the better song is Endlessly, She Said, but Kiss And Control is sooooo good too.. Anyway, it doesn't matte, because I enjoy all of them...

natashacz93 Rating: 10.0

Its definatly one of my favs. and whoever thinks other wise is wrong. They are my favorite band by far. The music hanges from thier first CD to thier most recent but in an awesome way. Their mix of music styles makes a great CD. So I give it the highest rating.

People call me Smokey Rating: 8.0

This was a great album but, i like Sing The Sorrow so much more. The new album is merely different and should notreally be compared to their older stuff. If you listen to Black Sails to Decemberunderground though, the overall sound is about what I personally thought it would have sounded like and i love the album but, nothing quite compares to Sing The Sorrow. Keep Making great music!

Sage Rating: 9.0

Ok, take away the crazy screaming stuff and the album is a perfect 10 billion out of 3!!

Andrea Rating: 10.0

There's no other band in the world better than AFI, that's a guarantee. Davey has the best voice (live and recorded), Jade is a great guitarist, Hunter is an awesome bassist, and Adam is one of the best drummers out there. There is so much truth to their music, it's therapy for some and has actually saved people...how many bands do you know that have done that? I love all their albums, and Decemberunderground is definitely not an exeption. They definitely know what they're writing.

Larae Rating: 10.0

Davey has to be one of the greatest writers in the world.
I think all of his greatness shines through this album.

Noname Rating: 10.0

Decemberunderground is a great CD and I love the different clashes of music genres that are mixed in it. (Along with Javey.) I just wish the damn emo kids would quit trying to adopt them as their new favorite band because of their lyrics.

Tyler Rating: 9.0

Like always, a great album, with lyrics I can absolutley relate to, and a sound like no other.

Andy Rating: 2.0

It is so easy to tell the difference between real fans who have listened to afi since Answer that and Stay Fashionable vs. the new "fake fans" as i like to call them. December Underground was, perhaps for any other band a great cd, but unfortunately, this cd bears the name of afi. Because of this, December Underground is garbage. As a long-time fan of afi i was afraid that they would migrate into the mainstream black hole. Sadly, they have now fallen in beside bands whose followers love them for an hour until a new better looking lead singer comes along with a catchy song that melts their 12 year old hearts. i feel that afi has really let down their true fans with this disgusting attempt at an "afi" cd. its a real slap in the face for anyone who loved the band for the words they spoke, not how popular they were. i truely hope that davey and the rest of the band open their eyes to what they are doing, and remember which fans brought them to where they are now.

coby Rating: 2.0

i started listening to this band with sing the sorrow(sadly enough) but after i dug a little deeper i found the true afi. the hardcore punk revivalists. i have gotten all there albums since. and this is by far the worst its sad that answer that and stay fashionable apealed to me so much more and it was their first album. what the hell happened to the afi i know and love. this album is pathetic. it would be ok if it wasnt afi. but it is. east bay hardcore!! doesnt that mean anything anymore!! what have you become. if you like december underground you obviously havent heard the afi i know. i agree you are "fake fans". they are emo sellouts now.

sexyy Rating: 9.0

this album is deffinatly da bomb. it has soo much rockin hard core tunes and lyrics..i love it!! i listened to it litterly 10 times in a row when i first got it. Its amazing. I love davey's voice. the gutairing and drumming was freakin good too. Sing the sorrow was a great cd, but this one tops it all off! AFI rocks!!

Alexa Rating: 1.0

I've been listeing to AFI for many years, and I have to say that this is by far there worst album. As many of you who praise this album most likely dont know, AFI has been around for about 10 years; and how there sound has changed. In the mid 90's they started off with a classic punk sound, yet over time it most definitely got altered, changing to what the mass majority of people wanted to hear. I still can't deny my love for AFI, but it's hard to respect them after the release of the Decemberunderground album. Sing the Sorrow was definitely the turning point where their music changed from their classic hardcore punk sound to an emo techno mix.I don't understand how people can praise the guitar or drums in this album because what guitar or drums or basic instrument can you even hear? It's all synthesized together, creating a new sound that AFI was never known for; I suppose its what sells. I do agree with what someone said before me, the CD wouldn't be that bad if it didn't come from AFI. If I didn't have certain expectations of the band I'd have to say I wouldn't mind the album- but this just isn't the true, indivitual and respectable AFI we all used to know and true fans fell in love with. So I'm sorry, but for any of you who were drawn to AFI from hearing Miss Murder or even Girls Not Grey, downloaded a few more songs from those albums and now claim your true AFI fan and how 'legendary' this band is now, think again. They used to be legendary to their true fans, and if they would have stayed true to their roots they could have been legendary- but I guess they wanted more fans who knew nothing about there music rather then people who actually respected all that they've done. So for all you 'hardcore fans, who just love AFI' go search up some of their old stuff, buy some of their first albums...you'll understand why many of us despise their Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground albums. And maybe you'll realize that you don't even know enough about this band to make a true judgment on them yet.

Anni Rating: 8.0

True, this is an amazing album. My favorite songs from it would be Kill Caustic, Affliction, and Kiss and Control. Davey, Jade, Hunter, and Adam are all talented musicians. The lyrics are mysterious and poetic, and there are great riffs in some of the songs. However, there are far too many radio-friendly songs on this album -- Miss Murder, the Missing Frame, Love Like Winter, Summer Shudder, and 37mm. They're okay songs, but poor compared to AFI's older songs, such as Totalimmortal. If you really want to hear authentic AFI, get The Art of Drowning or Black Sails in the Sunset. You'll definitely see the difference, and you won't regret it (unless you only like songs like Miss Murder and Love Like Winter). You can't claim to be a hardcore AFI fan if you've never heard hardcore AFI.

daniel Rating: 10.0

ok, for those who say "what happened to the afi i knew and loved?" if you knew them then you would know that they would always change their sound. afi is not categorized into emo, they are an ALTERNATIVE ROCK BAND. DAVEY SAID IT HIMSELF. their words have nothing to do with emo people. if they call them theyre favorite band, let them. you will still have loved them first. why let a shitty scene turn you away from afi? youre gonna let those emos win over afi? i dont think so.

Angela Rating: 10.0

AFI is fantastic!! Those of you who who think that AFI is emo and that their lyrics are no longer deep, you're wrong. Many people can relate to all of AFI's lyrics, new and older. They are making these changes for their fans because they know that if they made the same thing over and over, they would be bored, and if you are a TRUE AFI fan, you would respect and relize this. I know that I will always stay true to AFI, no matter what. I love their new and old music. I am OBSESSED with you AFI, thank you for the amazing music!!!!!!

Bob Sharky Rating: 10.0

This CD in my honest opinion was one of the best of the year. All of the people calling them emo need a reality check and fast. If they were emo they would have their songs be quite a bit darker believe me. My friend writes music way darker than this. Emo relly isn't a genre of music either. "Summer Shudder" is probably my favorite song along with "Killing Time". "Miss Murder" actually calms me down if I'm super hyper. All around awesome album.

RV Rating: 10.0

Amazing no doubt. Anyone who thinks AFI is emo most definately is wrong they are alternative. An amazing band both on the record and in concert I hope everyone can get a chance to see them live its an experience you won't soon forget. just like the first time I listened to the album an unforgettable experience.

jill Rating: 10.0

I'v been listening to AFI since Sing the Sorrow.I liked the cd so much that I started to buy their other cds.All of their cds have a reason why they are great. To me it is clear that this is their best cd.It has really put them on the map in the music world.Just because someone thinks that this is AFI's best cd does not mean that they are emo or just started listening to them. All of Davey's lyrics on this cd to me is meaningfull I hope they keep going in the direction they are going.

AFI_goth_ Rating: 10.0

All of AFIs CDs are rocken so im not going to change my mind. there always going to rock my socks. If you want to listen to GOOD music listen to AFI!!!! If you want to listen to crapy music listen to fall out boy or something!

Dunno Rating: 10.0

I think Decemberunderground is a really great album. I don't really like all of the screaming that much. It kind of gives me a little headache...but in these songs, there's only a bit in most of the songs, and thats how I like it. I really love this CD. I'm listening to it right now! My favorite song is probably "Kill Caustic" or "Kiss and Control". And just so you all know, I hate when people are like "OMG YOU'RE A POSER OR A 'FAKE FAN' BECAUSE YOU'VE ONLY LISTENED TO STS OR DU!!!" It gets on my nerves, because how are you a poser because you like their new songs, but not their old ones?! Can someone please explain that to me?! Thank you.

Evil Bunny Rating: 10.0

AFI is soo Uber awesome!!! I love them!! This album is freaking awesome and I cant stop listening to it. Its great!! <333

GG Rating: 10.0

I am so tired of hearing all of you older fans bagging on the newer fans. I have been a fan for about 5-6 years now, and I love AFI! And since they released STS and DU, all i've been hearing is you older fans talking badly about AFI, & their newer fans. Don't call yourself a "true AFI fan" if you can't support them for every ablum they've made. And another thing...AFI are not sell-outs. i don't understand how you guys say they turned "emo", by adding synth to their music. Synth isn't "emo", in fact it's more like 80's music. So technically, they are not "emo" they're just adding 80'sish-music elements to the their music. And can you really blame them for not wanting to expand their horizons, and try a different approach to making albums?? i think that's what artists SHOULD do. Decemberunderground, is not thier best album, in MY opinion, but i still love it AND them. I love the maturity of the album, and the lyrics are just outstanding. So, if you guys want them to go back to their "hardcore" days, then just do what Jade once said, "if you want us to go back to the hardcore days, white out Davey's long hair, into his devil's lock, on your poster & listen to all our old albums."
=]

Random Piza Piyo Rating: 9.0

This cd is actaully pretty awsome. Its nothing like AFI has done before and yes i know you old AFI fans this isnt special but maybe the lyrics and music is actaully better?
How do we know the line "take my life" is actaully talking about suicide? Maybe its a metaphorish thing. We don't know, Davey must have a good reason for making his music the way he does, real fans will follow and suport AFI to the end!

J-Daddy 130000000000 Rating: 10.0

this cd is awesome, all the way around. its got so many different ways of expressing the music, from slash and burn to beautiful ballad-esque type songs. all of afi's music has been great, from "answer that and stay fashionable" to "the art of drowning" to the present "decemberunderground". go AFI!!!

Cel C Rating: 10.0

This cd is really good. The songs have deep lyrics and catchy music. It's not as good as Sing the Sorrow, but it's still awesome. AFI rocks!!

Noname Rating: 9.0

I have to say, this album was great, even though their songs have changed much, they still sound great. I have respect for you older fans but it doesn't mean you cant cast AFI out for their new music. I've been listening to them since Black Sails In The Sunset. They're still the Band I love.

Rakesh Rating: 10.0

Though decemberunderground is a VERY different album for AFI to do, I believe it is also a beautiful one. I do understand why most of their older fans are disgusted by it though. It is much lighter and mainstream than their previous albums, but just because something's popular doesn't make it terrible. 'Miss Murder' is a bad example of the music found on the CD. Other great songs are 'Kiss and Control' and 'Affliction', much better songs and greater examples of the album's beauty. I know it's not as punk-based as their older music, and that with it came annoying twelve year old "fans", but it also brought Davey's beautiful voice and songs that took my breath away. <3

alex Rating: 10.0

To all you losers who are talking about AFI making a crappy CD with Decemberunderground i have news for you. "Change is not a bad thing"! Sure they aren't the same as the screaming punk of 'fashionable' but thats not a bad thing. the band wasnt trying to be a mainstream band like greenday or MCR those guys really turned. AFI just evolved. you liked barny and stuff when you were a kid but you grew out of it. AFI just has a mature sound that is right for some people and not for others. so stop dissing them December is a wicked album. so is Black Sails and Sorrow so shut up. AFI scores 10

Michael johnson Rating: 10.0

AFI has gone above and beyond in the making of this album. The best AFI album since Black Sails In The Sunset. There also awsome in concert.I saw them in Eureka.

Paul Rating: 6.0

Although AFI is a amazing band this last effort disappointed me a bit, dont get me wrong its an alright album but it lacks what AFI is. It seems they gave up on being the original band that all there previous releases were and gave in to the pressure of mainstream music. Maybe they just dont have the energy they use to( and I know daveys voice has been injured presviously and he cant sing to his full talent) but man do I ever wish they didnt take such a turn with this Album. AFI=10/10, DU=6/10.

Teresa-'Miss Murder' Rating: 10.0

I do have to say... DecmeberUnderGround has totaly blowen my mind away. AFI has been doing wonderful over the last couple of years. As a teen, I respect them the most of everyone out of my home town in New Brunswick. My fave three songs off the Decmeberunderground cd would be 'Miss Murder', 'Love Like Winter' and 'The Killing Lights'. AFI you have such wonder talent, please keeping making more songs and cds.

Laura Rating: 6.0

As much as I like the songs on the cd, I am still very disappointed that it was AFI. Yes, the songs are good, but they aren't what AFI is about. I think that the band needs to go back to the root of what they're music really is. Go back to The Art of Drowning and Black Sails... That's AFI, not this emo stuff that they have in their new cd. Don't get me wrong, it is a good cd, but not expected from AFI. The band needs to return to it's real sound before it's lost within this poor excuse of music, emo.

Victoria rose C. Rating: 5.0

Couldnt Agree with Laura anymore.I miss the AFI I fell in love with,The AFI that was lik none other,They still dont sound like any other band out there,BUT the songs on decemberunderground were like alot of the bands out there now,Miss murder is probally the worst AFI has ever come out with

and I never thoguht I would hate an AFI song, let alone not even listten to a record of theirs,I just dont feel that connection anymore

the pure genuine sound and feeling I get from black sails and The art of drowning and even some off of sing the sorrow,I deffenetly dont get from their new record.

The emotions in their latest recor dont feel pure and genuine to me,sorry. However I will always fully support the boys,I just hope this was some faze, and im pretty sure they see what all us old afi fans mean,I know they feel it too.

XxHelenaxX Rating: 3.0

The cd was good, but I heard better from them. I think that they could've used better lyrics like the old ones that just touched your heart and you can relate to.

Jose Rating: 9.0

This isn't their greatest album, but it's a damn good one. Personally, nothing will top Black Sails, but I still love everything they've ever done and will continue to support them. I love AFI.

Black Angel Rating: 9.0

Well. I can't really complain. It wasn't as good as Sing The Sorrow. These are the only good songs from the album: Prelude 12/21, Miss Murder, Summer Shudder, Love Like Winter, Endlessly, She Said

Michelle Rating: 10.0

Decemeberunderground is obviously different from AFI's previous, but it is still a great album and worth listening to. I give it 10 out of 10 definately!

Erica Rating: 10.0

I'm very loyal to AFI, I love all their albums and if this band changes, so do I. I can't say which is better - DU or StS, or the older albums, because they all are pretty different but great, but I'm listening mostly Decemberundergroung now. Anyway, AFI is my favourite group, I loved, love and will love them and their music!!

Anonymoose Rating: 8.0

All the "hardcore" or "old-school" fans need to shut up. This is not a space to review the band. This is where you review the cd. And saying "this is a good cd for anyone except AFI" is stupid. A GOOD ALBUM IS A GOOD ALBUM. While I believe that Sing the Sorrow was the best thing they've made, this was a strong cd. While it lacked some of the writing power of previous work, many songs are well done, with incredible and intricate music and impassioned singing. Some songs feature a little too much screaming to be on he same plane as the album's best, but there is no reason not to give it a chance if you love music.

XX_Romeo316_xX Rating: 10.0

AFI even tough left behind a great punk sound that it had established way back when with "ANSWER THAT AND STAY FASHIONABLE", returned with an almost eeri sound. DECEMBERUNDERGROUND AFI 7 installation of great punk music has even furtherd its career. And has definetly put them in the position of one of the best ROCK bands of all time. AFI leaves nothing to chance and goes for a different sound in the search of perfection and desire to show the attributes that AFI has and is capable of. AFI's DECEMBERUNDERGROUND is one of the best LP's of this decade.

Haley Rating: 7.0

When I first heard this album, I though it was pretty good, but then I dug a little deeper into AFI's history and found some of their older albums were a little better. Don't get me wrong, I like Decemberunderground, but I though Sing The Sorrow was alot better.
