It's hardly surprising that the first words to tumble out of Alex Turner's mouth on this record are "Anticipation has a habit to set you up/For disappointment".  Full text...

Guardian Rating: 10.0

In a few weeks' time, it seems likely that When the Sun Goes Down, the third single by Arctic Monkeys, will follow its predecessor straight to number one.  Full text...

And even if this is the best we're going to get, no matter, this album is still surpasses most band's capabilities.  Full text...

So, to be sure, the Arctic Monkeys aren’t worth all of the giddy hyperbole they’ve received in recent months, but Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not is still as fun and crafty a debut as you’re likely to hear this year, one that kicks as much ass on your way to work as it does at a party or while you’re puttering around the house.  Full text...

Punk like The Sex Pistols. They're pop like The Clash.  Full text...

The two-week adventure is in support of the Arctics' forthcoming debut album, the stupidly-titled Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which is due out in America on February 21 courtesy of the lovely folks at Domino Records.   Full text...

RollingStone Rating: 8.0

"We wanted to find a sound separate from changing styles and times," says Turner. "More than anything, we just want our album to be remembered."  Full text...

People say they're the Next Big Thing. But if you believe the title of their debut CD, that's precisely what they are not.  Full text...

The youth of today might have found a new set of heroes, but the bemused rest of us might be left wondering what all the fuss is about.  Full text...

ShakingThrough Rating: 6.8

Arctic Monkeys' Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is a high-energy smash-and-grab debut that shouldn't sound so cynical coming from a band just starting out.  Full text...

It's for Nirvana fans, the Darkness fans and Franz Ferdinand fans (and god knows who else).   Full text...

Turbo charged guitar and a voluptuous rhythm section makes for a full dancefloor, and whether you look good on it or not that's where you're likely to be when you hear the majority of these tunes.  Full text...

StylusMagazine Rating: 5.0

Haircut indie, nu-indie, new British rock, the scene with no name (lol)... whatever you want to call this stuff. They're not rebelling against shit. They have no natural enemies, they're the red fire ants of music. And, like red fire ants, this means that they can take over quickly.  Full text...

Arctic Monkeys may be unashamedly British, by then so are jellied eels - doesn't mean we want to eat them.  Full text...

For 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' goes swiftly downhill, and it's largely down to this ham-fisted lack of imagination.   Full text...

I cannot stop playing this album!!!
Anyone who gave this album a 7 rating or lower obviously doesn't "get it". Stop listening to the praises and just listen to the record for what it is… simply creative. It starts out strong and gets better... not "down hill". Especially track 9--Mardy Bum... clearly the best song on the album. My advise to the "7" and unders…
listen again. And then again, without thinking all the f-ing time, “I don’t get it?” And if that doesn’t work… go back to listening to your Christina Aguilera.

Sometimes I think how amazing is that a band from nowhere releases their first record and in a lil time it becomes for a lot of people the best band of the world. That's what the Arctic Monkeys had show me and I think they'll reach a single success with the pass of the years. They are a super incredible band and they're showing it every minute. The Arctic Monkeys Rocks!
