The pop album of 2006.  Full text...

Entertainment Weekly Rating: 8.3

She's added saloon songs to her repertoire of ballads and club tracks, peppered her lyrics with shout-outs to jazz and blues greats like Billie Holiday and Etta James, and made no secret of the fact that she wants a place in that pantheon.  Full text...

Times Online Rating: 8.0

Back to Basics finds her transformed into a platinum blonde forces sweetheart, and the music is often as bold and brassy as the image.  Full text...

Mansized Rating: 8.0

Good news, fellas. She’s still dirty!  Full text...

E!Online Rating: 7.9

Christina, we get it--you can belt out a tune. So, on your first album in four years, you beat us over the head with an impressive array of roaring and purring and stretching nearly every single syllable past the breaking point across the course of 22 tracks.  Full text...

BBC Music Rating: 7.0

There's no doubt that Christina's got a stunning voice, but stylistically she could be more varied, simply by cutting out some of the "y-e-e-eeeh, woah yeh's" on the second album. Whilst some songs like "Oh Mother" might mean a lot to some, those with the tiresome self defence lyrics should go - when she gets on with the singing, there's nothing to prove.  Full text...

Jam! Rating: 7.0

Aguilera's most ambitious, distinctive and enjoyable disc.  Full text...

TimeOut Rating: 6.6

The fourth LP by the four-octave diva is a double: disc one is a self-consciously ‘gritty’, retro soul affair that pays tribute to Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Eartha Kitt et al and cleverly casts Aguilera as part of that continuum; the second, nine-track LP was produced by the ubiquitous Linda Perry, whose (heavy) hand is all over its remodellings of ’20s-’40s blues, supper club jazz and show tunes.  Full text...

RollingStone Rating: 6.0

When it works, Back to Basics raises the hope that Xtina fans everywhere might go digging through crates of vinyl LPs to track down the artists she references. When it fails -- as on the incongruous schmaltzfest "Hurt" and the done-me-wrong song "F.U.S.S.," the collection is overindulgent and self-important, proving that twenty-two songs is about ten too many for Aguilera. At one disc, this would have been nothing short of masterful.  Full text...

The Independent Rating: 6.0

Christina Aguilera certainly has an unusual idea of getting "back to basics", which here involves not just the album you expect, full of shrill diva disco-pop, but an additional album on which she unveils her "new direction", full of simulated blues and big-band swing.  Full text...

Slant Magazine Rating: 6.0

Back To Basics is more cohesive than its predecessor.   Full text...

So, welcome then to Christina Aguilera v3. She's been a fluffy pop poppet in her Genie In A Bottle days, a Dirrty, leather chaps clad girl in her Stripped period, and now she returns all respectable and married and talking about channeling the spirit of Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James.   Full text...

Guardian Rating: 4.0

Back to Basics doubtless has enough potential hits to secure Aguilera's position in this decade's pop pantheon but, on the terms that the singer herself defined, she's no Billie Holiday.  Full text...

She's a really great singer. This album proves it once again. The best instrument on the album is her voice.

Tavarus Rating: 10.0

Best work by her so far i love the album great songs great concept and great vocals

Julie Rating: 10.0

I think she sounds great. I love the song Hurt the most. I think she is great singer

Desmond Rating: 10.0

This album an example how talented she is as a writer as well as singer. The best about this album is that she is reinventing herself and thats whats your suppose to do as an artist. Perfict 10

mANeAter Rating: 10.0

I love "Oh Mother" its the greatest song from the album

tommy Rating: 3.0

Her voice is beautiful but the album doesnt have enough diversity like Bday or Dangerously in love by beyonce and her voice has nothing on B

Ashley Rating: 10.0

i love her new cd. i seriously think that christina is the best female singer of all times.

Morgan Rating: 10.0

oh i love you
you are one of the most beautiful women i have seen. Your voice is beautiful
i love you and you music

Filip Rating: 10.0

This is album of this decade.Best album since ,,Stripped,, and ,,Mind, body and soul,, by Joss Stone.Christina is new legend and she is so over Beyonce,Justin and other stupid singers

dazzle Rating: 10.0

This is xtinas best album yet so far and her voice is amazing I am stunned that someone can have such a full ranged voice and sound so good behind a track as well as accopella{spellcheck} some1 on here says beyonce is better but beyonce has nothn on xtina not range and defiantly not style tina has proven herself beyond measure as a undesposable talent

cat Rating: 10.0

this album shows what she's really made of. No doubt she is the best singer of this generation. beyonce's Bday is good, but it doesnt seem like Beyonce really felt it. christina defenetely has a way of telling all her life in a song. great album

John Rating: 8.0

Well, i have all the christina's cds, so i consider myself cualified to said that is not her best album (which is, in my opinion Stripped) . Of course that 22 songs of Christina would leave more that reconforted and pleased to any good fan of her and, that could be enough to say that is her best record, but.. no, close, very close... but no. i give an eight to Back To Basics. That would leave Stripped with a nine to me. Although i think that is superior about the lyrics, i feel that there are song "filling the space", like F.U.S.S. , On Our Way and Here To Stay. The best songs on the album are The Right Man, Ain´t No Other Man, Still Dirrty, Mercy On Me and Oh Mother vocaly speaking.

Acacia Rating: 10.0

the 2nd cd is better but i love the whole thing! i know almost every word already!

AleXart Rating: 9.0

I love this cd, is one of the most amazing cds in the last years, I think is better than stripped its composition is really cool. when I lisened mercy on me, oh mother, hurt, sill dirrty is was like I could write those songs with her. back to basics is a new part of christina that everybody knows but we couldn't see before. thank you Christina thanks for giving us a little part of you. es la mejor en lo que hace

aron(sweden) Rating: 9.0

wonderful! her voice gives me the chills all the time, and i´m impressed by her own strength, her willing to challenge herself this way. well, one can say she should´ve skipped like 5-6 songs to make it a true masterpiece, but, hey, it´s chrissie´s own descision and vision, she know what she´s doing!...best tracks: MERCY ON ME, save me from myself,i got trouble, still dirrty, hurt,oh mother and candyman.

Juan David Rating: 8.0

This is the album which Christina Aguilera can consider herself an adult in music. Nevertheless, her style and image must move away from the Fake Pop Diva to a real female singer from our days. Her vocals and interpretations are great, but her real basics are songs like hurt 'cause the other ones are no other thing that poor and cheap imitations of all time female singers.

Jorge Luis Rating: 10.0

Is the best Christina's Album ever... Which elements that reminds you the old era and the old vibe...

tina Rating: 10.0

I loooooooooooveee this album. Out of 22 song i can't stand. I can remember most of the lyrics already. Her vocals are wickedly amazing. GREAT JOB CHRISTINA. :):)

emily....x Rating: 10.0

WITH OUT A DOUBT her best album you really get "back to basics" with this album yet again she lets out another side of the diva... her voice on this album is incredable it varies to the type of song she is singing cant wait to see you on tour november 2006...IS THERE ANYTHING SHE CANT DO?? love you so much ...x.x.x.x.x...

Laura Rating: 9.0

To be honest with you all this album is her best. Although some do like stripped better. But, I do like this one better. There is nothing else out there. She has an amazing voice, the songs are well written, and the music is amazing. This album is well worth your money. This album is Grammy material; however, I know that there are some big-shits that have some personal issues with her such as RCA. I don't agree with some of the ratings. Such as a 6 out of 10 or a two star album. That is bull shit. Furthermore, those who do give album a low rating or average rating just don't like personally and they are not looking at entire album. Yet, I do admit that there are some songs that should be kept off the album. That is why I would give it a nine out of ten.

Sofia Rating: 10.0

This album is great, i loved 'Stripped', but in this one she shows the world her voice... she's not only a great singer but also a great writer. She knows how to challenge herself, she doesn't do always that pop thing, she can change and show that she can always do better and better.

AndyN Rating: 10.0

Christina is the best singer of all times. This album is so great, so creative and of course, i love it so much.... hmm, I think 'back to basics' is the best album of 2006 :D

Sue Rating: 10.0

i think christina is incredible! she keeps reinventing herself, and everytime she does, she just gets better and better! being a fan from "genie in a bottle" i have to say that this cd is amazing! she has yet to disappoint me and i doubt she ever will. totally in love with the song "hurt"

GAB-STAR! Rating: 10.0

THe truth is that i didnt really like christina! but after i head this album i was like... "WOW, I LOVE HER!" her voice is gorgeous but i love her even more in her song "hurt." she puts so much meaning in her songs! i'm glad she got over her "DIRTY" days & has a new image now! I LOVE HER ALBUM BACK TO BASICS! <3

Chase S. Rating: 10.0

I would rank this album as a 9.5, but since that is impossible, I rank it as a 10 due to the exquisite vocal range that Miss Aguilera continuously displays throughout her career, the heart-stopping, soul pumping lyrics, and the throw-back to an age that so few appreciate today. I admit that I did not appreciate the album as much when I first got it, but upon listening to it, I most definitely have to disagree with Guardian for Christina Aguilera has the right to be placed among the greats like Billie Holiday. She's phenomenal and deserves the accolades that this album has received. Best Album of 2006, my vote is yes. Best Female Vocalist, yes. And when this decade closes out...I believe Miss Aguilera more than deserves the generations award due to her phenomenal impact upon modern society, the industry, and the world with her music, mind, and soul. Christina Aguilera, I applaud you.

BREEZY JAI Rating: 10.0

this is the best album next to stripped i love it anyone who disagrees needs to be put too sleep, she clearly shows that she has another side to her the best tracks that stood out the most "On Our Way" "Back In The Day" "Understand" "Hurt" matter of fact the whole damn album go head Christina do ya thang....and make it HOT!!!!!

J.E.S Rating: 10.0

This is a masterpiece that only a singer like Christina Aguilera could make. Her voice is just amazing, proven by the way she hits those octaves and highest notes over and over again without compromising the integrity of her music... shes the BEST and she is so beautiful

CoFFee Rating: 10.0

She's amazing. And Russia loves her so much!
Her voice is one of the best voices on the Earth (god! how I want to say "the best voice on the Earth")! I love her. She is adorable. She is so strong. Her songs helped me in solving some of my difficult problems. the song F.U.S.S. explained me that there is no use to hold the past. That we must move on, forgive and foget.
I thank her for what she's doing.
"Oh, Christy, I thank you for all that you've done and still do... You got us, we got you, together we always pull through" :)

Leanne - England Rating: 10.0

I think the album is the album of 2006. I have always been her fan. But since this album came out i have become a really big fan. I think she has one truly amazing voice. She reminds me of Whitney Housten. My best song on the album is 'The Right Man' & 'Oh Mother' But i do love 'Here To Stay' & 'Still Dirty.

sasha Rating: 9.0

i think this is the album of 2006 . i lked her since i was three.since christina aguilera and her 4 year break i loved her album stripped and my kind of Christmas and ijustlike hurt and candyman and ain't no other man i like all her 102 songs .

Demi Rating: 9.0

Christina Aguilera has an amazing voice and I think her songs are great but I agree with BBC Music. She tends to "melodate" too much. It would be better if she sang it straight.

Jessica Rating: 10.0

Shes back and better than ever....christina has always been great and this cd just shows how much she doesnt care what people think and shes truely happy its the greatest yet!

emmmms Rating: 10.0

I love xtina shes grown sooo much as an artist. her songs r all so fun and exciting. i also love her album stripped .i love her songs i really love Ain't no other man ,Dirrty,Hurt and Lady Marmalade.Back to Basics is her best album so far.

KDM Rating: 7.0

Great album, but she screams a bit too much and she should have made only one cd - there are too many indifferent songs.

mmms Rating: 10.0

SUPERBLY FABULOUS. Its an awesome CD which I recommend to anyone. The songs are great and I dont understand why some say there is not enough diversity because the truth is that there are many different types of wonderful sounds and beats to it. The music really gets you hyped up and it sounds awesome with Christina's strong voice. The first CD has more of a modern day twist to it with rocking beats while the second CD has more of the jazzy feeling. I am not a great jazz fan, but her songs still sound fantastic to me and i've listened to this CD over and over continuously since i've bought it. Go check it out!! =)

LC Rating: 9.0

The first time I listened to Back To Basics I fell in love with it right away. I think she got it right with the album's style. It's pretty obvious she wanted to do a different thing-more blues and less pop- but she totally kept her own personal style. Love "Back In The Day", "On Our Way" and "I Got Trouble".

Danielle Rating: 10.0

Her album is great! I wasn't sure whether I would like it or not because I liked only a few of her old songs but I love it! I listen to jazz all the time and I think that it is awesome because it is like a jazzy/pop and that is awesome hopefully more artists will join this trend! Awesome job Christina!

wow Rating: 10.0

I didn't think she would ever top Stripped. She's proved me wrong! Album of the year, without a doubt! Not a single song I don't like! I especially love Candyman, Mercy On Me, Hurt, Makes Me Wanna Pray, Ain't No Other Man and Slow Down Baby. If there is any criticism for it, it's that she needs to simplify her singing a bit. But her vocals are superb, and this is still getting TEN!

Marisa Rating: 10.0

Noname Rating: 10.0

X-tina is awesome! I love the songs "Hurt" & "Ain't No Other Man" Hurt is actully is my #1 favorite song right now. The video is awesome too! She has an amazing voice! She's so frickin' talented!

Alison Rating: 9.0

I think that Christina has a beautiful voice. She reminds me so much of Whitney Houston in her days. She was the only person that did justice to one of Whitney's songs.I love the song 'Hurt'. I think she is the next best singer to 'Vintage' Whitney. Keep it up

azie Rating: 10.0

this is her best album & she is so ,if u don't like her back to basics,it means u dont have any ears

Amaz Rating: 10.0

She has return with a fantastic album and fantastic voice. Good job.

Her songs was "So Emotional", and never make me "Walk Away" from her. And she's "Beautiful", too.. and she can make all "Imposibble" thing become posibble. And "I'm OK" with all her things..
"Ain't No Other (wo)Man" but Christina only. I think I can't live "Without You(rs)" songs. Your song always "Save Me From Myself". And last but not least thing is.. I hope Jordan Bratman will be "The Right Man" for you.
Thank you for everything Christina..
Love you so much..

Eve Rating: 9.0

Some not so great songs, but as I'm a jazz & blues fan: TOO many GREAT songs to ignore, great melodies!!!

AalaA Rating: 10.0

noone can deny that she's got the strogest voice ever among all of the female singers who came in the 2000's and this album is a pure proof of that.

Mary Rating: 10.0

With this album, Christina proved that she is not only an amazing vocalist, but also a talented song writer. A lot of the Christina's fellow female artist although rose quickly to the top, could not hang in long. Unlike all of the other singers who can’t speak beyond “like’s, omg’s and umm”, Christina expresses herself in a very intelligent and bright manner.

Nancy Rating: 10.0

only christina can get away with taking her songs "back in the day" its beautiful... i always say Christina is the next mariah carey and britney spears is the next madonna

maxine Rating: 8.0

good job...she's such a talented singer and stripped should've been platinum cuz that is the best cd ever and u can see how much work she put into it by listening to the songs. this album was good 2, i like how she's more mellow and the idea of going "back to basics" was wickedly brilliant. and ppl say "oh i want the old x-tina back" but she's not a totally dif person, she's just grown and changed her music style. and btw, beyonce is really good but u just cant compare the 2. ones like r&b hip hop and the others soul. u just cant rank one higher becuz their music style is insanely different.

Miss Q Rating: 10.0

This CD is amazing. Those of you on here sleeping on this womans talent need to get it together. No other artist has been able to capture the the era better than X-tina and she maintains that she's still dirrty I like it we as young women grow and change everyday and she has put into words what so many of us can't
Don't get it wrong I am a Beyonce fan myself and I thought that B-day Cd was the sh*# X-tina's voice however is unparrelled unrivaled back to basic is exactly the opposite of B-day both women are great artist in their own right and who are we to really compare they are different I will say young women can really relate to this cd

janna Rating: 10.0

This cd is a big hit.I love it the music is so original to the effect of the others.Christian Aguliar YOU just make it so.....ACETEPABLE!!!!!!

Rayzor Rating: 10.0

i only know the songs ain't no other man, hurt and candyman and i give 100 persent to those 3 songs! excellent voice! it's outstanding!

stephanie Rating: 10.0

Christina I think that your the only good one that can sing that is famous. I mean like I've heard you in concert and your just as good as you are on the C.D.'s. I think your amazingly good and I hope you don't stop singing until you get older :p I LOVE YOU =)

Christina Rating: 10.0

I love Christina Aguilera. I like how she sings about her life in her songs. She has an amazing voice as well as great stage presence and she always puts on a great show. She is my idol and she is a great role model for women everywhere since she has overcome so much and yet she is staying strong.

Anna Rating: 10.0

Im a great fan of Christina's work! This album is awesome and there are 2 brilliant songs: candyman and aint no other man.I have got to say your my favourite singer and you work just keeps getting better that is why i give you 10/10 !!

Becky Rating: 9.0

Back to Basics is my favourite album by Christina Aguilera. It seems like she gave all the songs alot of thought and care. When Christina gets serious in what shes doing she does an amazing job! I don't have a favourite song all of them are fanominal! I saw Christina Aguilera perform in concert on March 25th and she did a outstanding job. I will never see a concert like that again. Christina Aguilera is a true performer.

Elizabeth Rating: 10.0

Almost every song on the CD I had to put on my ipod! Christina can belt anything she wants and it is good. Candyman is such a great song with a cool music video( good for dancing too!)Along with practially all the restof the songs. Every song on the CD is good! Definetly 10/10!

Brent Rating: 10.0

I love Christina Aguilera so much. She puts life into songs and not to mention soul. She is strong willed and her new look makes her look stunning. She has truly out did all other singers in my opinion. I love how she brings i didn't feel than most artists. Especially the bluesy feel. She is talented and i hope she keeps on continuing to make music as long as she lives.

meeeee Rating: 10.0

she has got an incredible voice, one of the most powerful I have ever heard. stripped and back to basics are much more diversified than many other singers albums, she can sing everything...really unbelievable

Shadira Rating: 10.0

Christina never disappoints me. She has an amazing voice and displays it in this album. I loved how she tried something new. It surprises me how many times she can reinvent herself. I love this album and so happy about the tour. She gets so into her songs and always stays true to herself. Favorite songs: "Mercy On Me" and "Save Me From Myself"

nth Rating: 7.0

`1 of da best albums in 2006.her voice cant be compared to other female singers nowadays.this is a must-buy album but the problem is that she yells too much.andf yes she's truly talented unlike other singers and she dserved to win dat grammy for best female pop song.

Black Mamba 13 Rating: 10.0

Well, what can I say about this incredible woman? She really "makes me wanna pray"! How is possible such a great voice and talent in a very little person? Altough this album is very well elaborated (that's why is a 10), I think she has far much more to give and to reach. She is really the best voice on Earth! With every note I shiver completely! Very few people make you feel tremblin with a song, but she is the one who gets! All I can say:
"Welcome to the greatest show, greatest show on Earth. You've never seen before!"

jem Rating: 10.0

Truly an amazing singer! Best voice I've ever heard! Amazing in concert and a really down to earth girl!

faith Rating: 10.0

I just want to say that your an insiration to many people especially teenage girls who have hopes and dreams of becoming a singer, just watching you sing lets them know that there's nothing impossible out there. you have made incredible albums and songs all very original, and your voice is a gift from God, and it's fantastic that you sharing it with the whole world. i'm only 14 and i want to follow your fotsteps because i have been told that i can sing but ofcourse i'll never be as good as YOU.
Heads up on your success!! and your marriage we can't wait to have another Xtina.

Julie Rating: 8.0

No doubt Christina is talented and has an amazing vocal range but all the 'woah yeahs got a bit much for me
