Unlike Juturna, On Letting Go is everywhere but overall an improvement. There are definitely the ups ("Living Together," "Kicking Your Crosses Down," and "Travel Hymn") and the downs ("Mandala" and "On Letting Go"). Don't fault the songs listed as 'the downs,' because they still are decent tracks--they just don't reach the higher level of the rest of the album--lyrically.

On Letting Go might not be the game-changer that Juturna was, but it is still an inviting exhibition by one of the scene's most talented bands honing its skill sets. Pick this album up, and listen to it ten times before you make your judgment on it - if you do not find something new to love on each spin, you are not listening hard enough. All in all, when the record is finished, it sounds like Circa Survive picked just the right time to let go.

When the band channels obvious idols like U2 and The Mars Volta on "The Difference Between Medicine And Poison Is In The Dose," it seems destined to sell out amphitheaters. But far too often, Circa Survive also gets bogged down with lackluster guitar workouts like "Mandala" and "Kicking Your Crosses Down," both of which threaten classic-rock grandiosity, but sadly, never quite deliver.
