Coldplay are a closely knit group of musicians, a band of men with one aim - to make the best music in the world. On the epic X&Y they're on the brink of achieving that goal.

This is not easy listening; on the contrary, it requires a real commitment from the listener. But it's a commitment that'll be amply rewarded.

I can't see a future in which this record doesn't further cement Coldplay's position, but it's a good enough record that its inexorable progress doesn't bother me half as much as it could.

You could really start anywhere if you're new to Coldplay, and you'll likely find X&Y to be worthwhile if you're an existing fan.

Coldplay, to be sure, is very good at what it does, and what it does best is produce very pretty songs, lent an extra populist boost by forceful keyboard riffs and ringing guitar lines.

Whereas Rush of Blood was a nervy bid for bigness, X&Y is something less exciting.

It may be pointless to hate them, but with this album, they've almost certainly become the easiest band on the planet to be completely indifferent to.

They don't rock the boat from album to album, you know what you are going to get.

You can't help but sink into the dark, depressing vortex of the Coldplay music. It will all start when your father/ designated driver switches on the car radio and then you hear it, the rather astute voice of Chris Martain. At first your clueless of how your going to rate the song, it seems rather annoying until the music gets going and then BAM! Your trapped in a Venus fly plant. You need their album and you need to search for their lyrics on this website. One day your cat will scratch your arm and your bullied at school for being a suspected 'emo',the evidence is there you listen to COLDPLAY! Yet after a while you've heard it all. Get bored and move on until their next CD comes out. It's not a bad album and neither were the previous two. All of them containing various songs that can take your breath away. |

I was never really into Coldplay, always thought they were a 'fad' - that sort of thing. But then I fell in love with "Speed of Sound" and decided to go out on a limb and buy their cd "X&Y". Thank goodness I did, for not only does this cd express vivid emotion and imagery, but also shows a heart that many artists are lacking these days. Exquisite music, exquisite lyrics and an exquisite band. Highly recommended. |

This album is crazy ya'll..its a lil sumthin one can just kickback to at any point of the day..Some may call it depressing, some may call it uplifting, whichever way you go u cant help but stop and appreciate the brilliant imagery and relevance to the songs written in "X&Y". After there last album, I thought, it couldnt get any better, that there was nuthin more to write about..they proved me wrong..enjoy!!! |

Coldplay is one onf the best bands ever. I have grown up listening to their music and I have become quite attatched to it. Their music is so soothing and sad, but I still love them! |

This is a very good album! The only problem I have with it is that there's too many epic songs and not enough sombre ones! My favourite tracks are Talk, Speed of Sound, A Message, The Hardest Part and Swallowed by the sea. However I still don't understand why they put the awful 'Low' on the album and didn't scrap it instead...it's got to be the worst song Coldplay have done! 8/10 |

the album X & Y is an excellent album, however it was not as good as A rush of blood to the head. The music i hav to say is not the best around since i listened to linkin park. But the main reason why i gave a lower rating for this album was because it didn't have that quality about it like u get from their previous album. However it contains alot more upbeat songs such as Talk but next time, i hope they suprise us with the next album |

Though I really thought it would be impossible for them to top A Rush of Blood to the Head, they really pulled through,to say the least. The music is a little more emotional, but the lyrics were pretty clicheish,so that aspect of it was a bit disapointing;but it's called "Music" for a reason, and not "Harmonious words". The thematic sounds of the album really...envelopes you(maybe?).The really only TRULY disapointing thing about the album is that they didn't come close to coming out,and finishing, with a bang like they did on their previous album."Kingdom Come" is a nice, soft closing song to leave you away feeling fresh and chipper, especially after two heavy and emotional songs as "Swallowed in the Sea" and "Twisted Logic" are,but the album's song should have been re-arranged and put into a different order.
May seem a bit strange for me to give it a 9 rating, but thematic and heavier sound to the album really won me over.

Close your eyes and feel each song of this album, trust me, you feel float in a remembrance wind. With each song you cry, smile and forget the time like "speed of sound". sorry for my english. but listen all and close your eyes... |

I think Jason McKay described it best when he said the one problem he had was that there too many epic songs and practically no somber-or more...easy-listening ones. With it's lack of such, the album really did not have that perfect balance as-or at least I feel- "A Rush of Blood to the Head" had |

True, A rush of blood to the head, or Parachutes, but, as always, they did wonderful work. I fell in love after hearing "Speed of Sound", and everything about them seems misty and dreamy, and sweet. |

i wasnt that into Coldplay till i heard "speed of sound" what an amazing song. Chris Martin has something in his voice which makes you listen to the song again again. The hardest part is another great song about sacrifice. Totally Coldplay takes you to a place of your imagination. good work guys. i am waitin for your next album. |
