It's a veritable electro-pop-funk-punk bomb that detonates with even the slightest bit of pressure on the PLAY button.

Enough snorkling though, I need to tell you about these really awesome songs-- all total energy thing, with at least two or three solid curveball hooks amidst the feet fodder. Datarock jump around a bit stylistically, borrowing David Byrne's affectations, his band's jingle-jangle guitar lines even more so.

Datarock Datarock is still a sweet confection, but its subtleties make it a continued pleasure to listen to. The U.S. release is way past due, but to lament the fact and pass over the album again would be a graver mistake. It’s no masterpiece complexity-wise but the flashy showmanship and carefree sexuality continue to stake a claim for relevance. In the mire of samey electro pop, at their best Datarock are a little bit of disco heaven.

This music isn't overburdened with substance. But the group infuses its songs with enough groove, style and, yes, occasionally schtick, that it shouldn't be missed.

The future is now, and Datarock's seizing it like few other dance-rock bands. Although the band's quirks and built-in sense of humor occasionally wear thin, Datarock Datarock isn't just an album to spin at your next party. It's a party all to itself -- one where we can still dream of the day when computers will transform our lives into a digital wonderland.

This isn’t really a bad album - it’s just unnecessary. It might be well received in a club, bits of it might sound great coming out of the radio on a summer’s day, and live they could be an interesting and exciting proposition.
