Evanescence fans can rest easy knowing The Open Door handily re-creates the sonic storm of the debut, complete with Lee's gothy wailing and the crunchy rock guitars; plus, confessional-style ballads show signs of, you know, maturity and stuff.

The album is more brooding, though slightly less dark, overall, than their previous offering.

The Open Door is an exercise in how not to make a sophomore album (or any album for that matter) and it's a shame, for these guys were once a great, great band.

This third album is wreathed in the genre staples of black-clad, mascara'd gloom, a mood best captured on "Lithium", where singer Amy Lee claims, "I want to stay in love with my sorrow/ Oh, but God I want to let it go".

Havent heard the full album because of being scared off from "Call me when you're sober" That song alone is keeping me from wanting to hear the rest of the album. Compared to the 1st single of Fallen (Bring Me To Life)this thing is like, CRAP! |

Difficult to top the first release, but a very nice job. Not as many songs jumped out at first as on Fallen. But it grows on me each time I listen and I find it to be an excellent follow up.
Go ahead, analyze the lyrics because it's a critic's job to disect content. To me that's just window dressing. The real test is, "Does it deliver?" I read the Rolling Stone review. Nice job on all the insight. I appreciate some background into the songs. But you need to rate more on the presentation because that's 90% of what entertains. Who here taps their foot or pumps their fist to just a good lyric?
Amy rox. The voice ... just incredible. She has the power and the lungs of a female Roger Daltrey. Pat Benetar power for sure. But she can also display that power in her softer ballads.
Amy is young and wrestling with the passions and frustrations of life. I'd rather enjoy the joy, confusion, mistakes, and life lessons within her lyrics thru her spellbinding voice than criticize those experiences.
Yeah, long winded, my bad. However, I think some of these ratings are disrespectfully low. People are always expecting bigger and better explosions in every movie sequel. Same goes for music. |

A great follow up to Fallen. I think its just as good no better not worse. I will admit to missing Ben Moody though and think they need to realize that He and Amy equal smashes. Best song is easily Lacrymosa. |

In my opinion, a little behind the Fallen Album, but not far. At first the songs don't really stand out all that much the first time you hear it. But they did grow on you with time.
Cloud Nine took me a while to get used to, but now it definitely is one of my favorite songs on the album. Of course the other favorites are the ones that stuck out from the rest when I heard them: Sweet Sacrifice, Call Me When You're Sober and The Only One. Some of the other songs on the track are good, but just seem to average. |

Maybe not as instantly catchy or as raw as Fallen, it definitely took me a few listens but I'm so glad I did! Sweet sacrifice, Weight of the world and Call me when you're sober are the instant Fallenesque hits. The more intricate, darker or more soul searching songs like Lacrymosa, Lithium, Cloud nine, Like You, The Only one and Snow White Queen really haunt you and with every listen they become stronger and more beautiful. Amy's vocals have matured greatly, yes some effects may have been generously reused but this doesn't change the fact young she has so much depth vocally.
My advice, if you listened to it a few times and weren't sure if you liked it - listen a few more times and you'll find yourself humming away the most unlikely of tracks.
Doesn't grab you round the throat like the first album - it grows and for me it usually means the album will stand the test of time. |

I'm giving this a ten mainly because I love these guys and I feel that the reviews here aren't giving them any justice.
To start off with, I was one of the people who waited online for leaks of the first single and had it within the first day of it being leaked. I was oddly surprised because I didn't know what to expect. Call Me When You're Sober isn't an indicator at all of what the entire album is like, and as their lead in, I think it brought a huge amount of honesty and showed that Evanescence had become a little more raw and honest with their music and hid less in metaphors. Some critics pan this, but I find it kind of refreshing to not have extremely cryptic songs as opposed to songs that you feel you relate to but don't know if you do or not.
At the very beginning of the CD, I was instantly concerned. I felt that the first song wasn't quite what I remembered and what I enjoyed, until I realized that it conveyed an aspect that they lacked in the last album, and that was a personal strength. Amy could have easily whined the entire album, but it seems that she brought herself out of a dark place by proclaiming her strength with the album.
The next point is the first few songs is what you gain with Weight of the World, Cloud Nine, and Snow White Queen. Quiet introspection or dark proclamation? Driving guitars, Amy's stunning voice, and songs that take you places that sometimes you need to go to move through an experience; these are the things that will set the album apart.
Lithium, Like You, and Good Enough all rank about the same for me as songs that are done in a slower and more brooding tone. Although Good Enough is significantly happier and more introspective, it seems that when it comes to ballads and a song about Amy's sister, this album comes through without fail. I find myself singing along with Like You on the brink of tears, and it takes something for a song to put me in an emotional position.
Songs like Lacrymosa, Lose Control, and The Only One all stand out because it seems that they were written with strength and determination. I find it reassuring that these are there because they're all placed separately, and they all stand strong in the CD. Lacrymosa shines with it's symphonic sounds, Lose Control has the dark and severely metal based sound, and The Only One just stands out as a powerful song that shows that the days of Fallen are over, and we're on to what I see as better things. All That I'm Living For also grabs me, as a song that took a lot to write. This stands out as the Whisper of The Open Door.
Your Star... stands out to me because it really shows that they didn't lose their metaphorical meanings and haunting lyrics, but they grew up with them.
In terms of what some people have said, panning this album for not being able to follow up Fallen, I very distinctly recall Amy Lee stating that this album is not their Fallen album, it's a completely new work that she felt stands out more because the band had some new aspects, new experiences, and new feelings that they could get creative with. I prefer this to Fallen now because I don't feel depressed when I finish the loop of the album. I feel uplifted, stronger, and Good Enough puts a smile on my face because it's giving hope to everyone who can relate to the rest of the album, that there are good things after you crawl out of the dark.
Amy Lee, Terry Balsamo, John LeCompte, Rocky Gray, and the retired bassist Will Boyd shined on this CD, and with the new bassist Tim McCord, I doubt they'll lose any quality in their music in times to come. I hope Evanescence lasts, because unlike other artists, their music isn't a re-release of their first album with different lyrics; it grew up, just as they did. |

I'll Addmit. It's entirely different from the earlier Fallen, but by making the needed switch in music style they've stayed with the new coming age. Songs like Lacrymosa, Snow White Queen, and Lithium are songs that stick with new era of teens and young adults. The lyrics are dark, yet sweet and touching. Amy Lee's voice was made for this kind of music. <3 |

I agree some of the songs are rather similar (ie the same pounding beat) but how can you not love the angelic yet gothic voice of Amy Lee and the lyrics which are obviously from her heart. Musically, I do like this album alot =] Listen to it more than once before you judge! |

The Open Door is pretty much a good album, a breakaway from Fallen. Which isn't exactly a bad or good thing. It's true it does seem to hit a more personal note once you listen to it a couple of times. Evanescence had a certain "style" back in Fallen and the "style" is neither mimicked or forgotten here. At first you may not love the songs on the Open Door because of it's difference from the previous album, but after a while it grows on you. It delivers an impact in a more subtle way than Fallen. Instead of blatantly showing the pain, it instead takes the time to seep in. Pain isn't what the album is all about, which is a good thing. I found "Weight of the World", "Lacrymosa", "Lithium" and "Like You" some of the more touching, good songs. I even liked Call Me When You're Sober, I don't see what's so bad about it. Overall, I'd have to say to take the time to listen to it, rather than first judgement. It's a great album and it deserves a bit more recognition. |

I love this CD! The Open Door is definably better than Fallen.
When I first got The Open Door, I listened to it and didn't really like most of the songs. But, after listening to it a couple more times, I grew to love them. If you have the same problem, do the same.
One reason that Evanescence is my favorite band is because there's a reason behind their songs (Call Me When You're Sober) or that her songs really make you think. Like, when I look up the lyrics, the always try to see what see was thinking about when she wrote the song.
Amy has a very beautiful voice. It's just...I'm not finding any adjectives to describe it! Yes, Amy's voice has matured quite a lot, but that has given her more of a range. She has a ton of power in her voice and she can hold a note for a long period of time. She shows off this power in songs like Call Me When You're Sober. Yet, Amy has softer songs when she shows off her range and beautiful voice, like Lithium.
This may be just me, but I think that the band is more metal-ish. Not that that's a bad thing, don't worry! For example, Weight of the World sounds metal-er than the songs in Fallen, which sound more pop. But, then again, I may be just crazy. Trust me, that's possible.
In my opinion, the best songs on The Open Door are Sweet Sacrifice, Call Me When You're Sober, and Lithium.
Also, what's with the twos, threes, and fours that people are rating?! Just because (in some people's opinions) it wasn't as good as Fallen, doesn't mean The Open Door deserves a low score! I'd like to see you do better if you're one of those people rated low!
Evanescence, congrats on the release of this CD. Myself and many others will be waiting eagerly for the next one! |

It wasn't what I expected. I agree with others that it doesn't tend to stand out as much as fallen or even the few new songs on anywhere but home. There are a few songs I could listen to on repeat forever and then there's others that i find hard to listen to once. It's a good album to have and evanescence is still awesome but it's not as good as fallen! |

I agree with almost every review here, at first not one song stuck out other than call me when you're sober, for two reasons.
A) I've heard it before B) Rather than this albums style, it seems to relate more to the album fallen's songs rather than this ones.
Though at first I was thinking, hmm, tell me she didn't pull a Metallica, I listened to it againg...and again....and again.....and, well you get it. This album and all her songs definately grow on you and are still very becoming of Amy and her intensly powerful voice, even in her softer ballads. Like you is an excellent example of this......
Her voice, the style, the lyrics, they're all still there |

I have been a fan for 3 years now. A HUGE FAN. and these guys never cease to amaze me. It takes a while to grow on you, but once it does...(I agree)...it doesn't leave your ears or mind. They are much better off without Ben Moody in my opinion, Amy's lyrics still are amazing, her vocals have improved..and everything has matured. Listen to Terry's guitar work. It is much harder than Ben's and has cooler sound. The whole album blew me away. Even though I listen to it every single day, it still amazes me. I love this band, I hope they never die. Its an awesome album, listen to it a couple times and you will enjoy it. Next single out should be awesome (Lithium). Rock on! |

As someone else said, once you listen to the full album (yeah give it past that "Call me when you're sober" phase) you will discover that it wraps itself around your soul. From a vocal perspective, as a singer, these songs are not typical run of the mill "anyone can sing that" kind of songs.
The only song I'm not as fond of, which still does have merit, is Lacrymosa. Snow White Queen is fantastic and Lithium, despite all those reviews by "normal" people, is a very accurate depiction of what it is like to have depression and to NOT want to have to rely on a drug to make you "normal."
Er.. *off soap box* Yeah, a 10 I'd say :) |

Many people is attacched to the ''Fallen'' album, that's why they may think ''The Open Door'' is not that good. But in my opinion,The Open Door album is almost better than Fallen. Amy is more mature now, the same with her voice, the lyrics, the music, and everything.10 all the way. |

Oh well, I must say I was deeply disappointed with this new album when I first listened to it. It just doesnt have the same eah-hanging strength and power as Fallen. And yes, I've tried to listen to it many times, and no, I don't hate it or anything. I just don't think it appeals to me as much as Fallen did. I can listen to it for a long time, but it doesn't catch my ear. I'm afraid I listen to it because I like Evanescence, not because I realy love The Open Door... I think an album is supposed to give you a good time, and if it's not good, youdon't need to defend it by saying "just listen to it a lot, you'll get used to it"... Would you do that to any other cd you found? To me, it just seems as if people don't want to be disappointed, and so they tell themselves over and over again that they like this change in style. If you do, then it's absolutely great! But if you don't, then please stop that nonsense and admit you don't like it, and do yourself a favour by finding some other music to listen to... Evanescence are not the only ones out there with talent...! |

Wow! This album is phenomenal!! Evanescence has done it again, the music is better than ever, the lyrics are much more raw and truthful. Amy shows that she has matured by not hiding behind metaphors all the time. I am in love with this whole album, every song sounds different to me, in a great way. The Open Door sounds different than Fallen, I agree but I think it sounds wonderful! Amy's vocals are beyond amazing, she has never sounded as good as on this CD. I believe that she is one of the best female vocalists in the music industry. The music of The Open Door is fantastic, my favorite songs are Sweet Sacrifice, Weight of the World, Lithium, Cloud Nine, Snow White Queen, The Only One, Your Sta, and Good Enough. Yes, pretty much the whole album is my favorite song. The Open Door is in my opinion the best album of 2006!! Rock on Evanescence!! Cant Wait for the third album!! |

I'm an Evanescence fan since "Bring me to life" as many of you guys must be. I'm sure "Fallen" was awesome, but "The Open Door" tops it. Heavier songs, perfect harmony between vocals and guitar and the lyrics are a lot more mature (apart from 'Call me when you're sober', that in my opinion shouldn't even be in this album 'cause it sounds really distant from the other songs to me) anyway... in my opinion they came back better than ever! |

When I heard the songs, they weren't just '' GOOD ENOUGH'' they took me from this '' WORLD'' and took me to the ''CLOUDS'' (more specifice in the 9th) ''MY STAR'' , my ''ONLY ONE'' star Amy Lee and the rest of the group were absolutely amazing!!! I got this CD nearly three weeks ago and I've been listening to it everday since then. It may not be the same as Fallen was but different matirial is a good thing. A lot of bands aren't able to stick to their image when starting, or if they do its ussally the same song over and over again, with the same type of lyrics but EV Has been able to change the entire songs and beats yet still keep the image they made for themselfs. Also this CD should be able to catch some newer people too. Its always good to cahnge up a little, like EV did, it'll bring more fans and a bigger diversity group. The only song I didn't really like was "call me when your sober" but that was only because they play it on the radio, MTV, Youtube, Computer stations (ect) too much and I'm sick of it. I agree that call me when your sober touches up on the last CD, Fallen but the other songs have shown a lot more maturity in them. Her voice isn't nealry as whiny, her lyrics really means something unlike other bands who just write songs to write them, you can feel the passion in her voice and everything. The songs are all universal but there also spasific too. The songs relate to alot of things for me, characters, Harry Potter (The Only One reminds me of what is probibly gonna happen in the seventh book), and some of the fanfictions that I have written. Snow White Queen reminds me of another Harry Potter couple (Narcissa and Lucuis Malfoy_ but not only does her lyrics relate to fiction nevels and such, it also relates to events like 9ll (again that one would have to be "the Only One", and a lot of other things. Over all this is the best CD so far.
Good songs, good lyrics, good beats, fresh, new stuff while still being able to keep their images, and it actaully has a plot which is impossible for a lot of bands to do. (if you dont agree with the plot listen to all of the songs in order and listen to the lyrics.) |

I've listened through the album, but the only songs I put on repeat are the first five. It does top Fallen though. And those who say it doesn't without listening to it, just need to get a life. They probably don't appreciate the emotion and the pain and the love as much as we do. Not to mention Amy Lee and the band!

Though not as groundbreaking as Fallen, the album incorporates several new aspects of music that everyone should have a taste of. Songs like Sweet Sacrifice and Cloud Nine should appeal to original fans of Evanescence, while songs such as Lacrymosa and The Only One exert a feel of what Evanescence has evolved into. Overall, a very good album. |

This is an awsome album! When people thought that Evanescence would be nothing without Ben Moody, did it stop them? Did all the terrible things that they've been through stop them? No, it just inspired Amy to be the best she can, singing this line a key higher, putting a choir in there, producing an awsome album even better than before! LONG LIVE EVANESCENCE |

Some of the songs take a while to get used to, but once you do, it's a whole other experience. Amy's voice's power and range is absolutely unbelievable. One song that seems to not get much recognition is Good Enough, which I think is the best showcase of Amy's voice. Yes, Fallen was good, but The Open Door is much more powerful lyrically. |

I have to admit that I fell in love with Amy Lee's voice from Fallen and feel that she has opened up even more with The Open Door. Her vocal range is so awesome that hearing her sing either send chills thru me or brings tears to my eyes depending on the song. I swear I can relate to each of her songs in some way or another. I just saw them in concert for the first time ever and I was in total awe at her performance. I wasn't sure what to expect hearing her live, but she sounds even better live than on the CD. I just can't seem to find anything negative to say about her or the band and their sound. I would have to agree with some of the other reviews that they have grown lyrically and I can hardly wait to see what they come up with next. |

I think "Through the Open Door" was a great follow up to "Fallen." True, some people might find "Call Me When You're Sober" hard to get into at first because of the change in tempo throughout the song, but all great artists have to have variety, and a change in tempo in one song should be considered quite a small change. My personal favorites on this album were "Call Me When You're Sober", "Lithium", "Like You", and "Cloud Nine", though I understand that I hardly represent the majority of Amy Lee's fans, so don't take any of what I'm saying personal, K? I think one of the weirdest songs I've ever heard from Evanescence is "Snow White Queen." This song starts out low and slow, and progresses into a somewhat faster beat and sounds nothing like the intro does, thank goodness.
My last word: If you like artists who actually have a voice and still have a bit of rock in their songs, go with this CD as well as Amy's Lee's other album "Fallen." |

I can deffintently say that this is new for Amy Lee. But she did a great job. Her voice in fanominal. I would say that this album gets a 10. Her vocals are just amazing I cant get over it lol. The new lyrics and music is great. This is something really new and I cant wait to see her in concert. |

I absolutly love this entire CD, its alot better than i thought it was going to be. I found that some artists have trouble makeing their next albums as great as their firsts, but not evanescence in my opinion i like it better than the first which is different cuz i loved the first one soooooo much. The songs from the open door get stuck in my head and i play the songs in my head during school and that just makes me want to listen to the CD again. I cant even say how good of a job they did with this. lol :D |

I loved Fallen and as a result I found this very disappointing, poor lyrics, even poorer vocals, in fact, half the time she yells rather than sings. It's boring musically, all the songs sound the same, there's no variation at all. Lithium is about the only song worth listening to. As an album it's pretentious and poppy and just tries too hard really. There are much better singers out there. |

This album didn't mesmorize me right away like Fallen did, but I like it more and more each time I listen to it. Plus, Amy has the most beautiful voice and she was even more incredible when I saw her live last month. Also, people should stop criticizing sad music. Everyone deals with pain and there's nothing wrong with writing or singing about it. Some of the most beautiful poetry is about sorrow and grief. I especially love Lithium, The Only One and Your Star on this album. |

The Album istelf is amazing with great vocals from Amy Lee and very meaningful lyrics. Theres a variaty of anger, suffering, control and other emotions. I honestly dont think this one matches up to their last album, Fallen, with Bring Me To Life, and My Immortal...but in itself the album is still a great one because it can from greatness...the Evanescence band. |

wow! shocking album! the songs the really jump out at me are: like you (so sad), the only one, lithium, your star, and the last song i'm waisting on you. Its seriously got game this album but the two before it (fallen and origen) were also amazing. I like all evanescence's stuff so i'd be torture to decide between the three |

Honestly,it's funny to me that everyone is acting as if Fallen was extremely good, because it was far too processed and didn't have any soul. The Open Door is more varied and has more feeling, not to mention their live performances from TOD surpass the performances from Fallen with leaps and bounds. But overall, my favorite work of Evanescence remains their oldest work, Origin. |

TOD IS SOOOOOO BETTER THAN FALLEN!!!! every song has a meaning to it, different people can relate to the songs, & the entire album just moves you. i cant get it out of my head. my fav song on TOD is Lacrymosa. And to all of you dissing the album & the band give them a break. i mean after fallen came out ben moody left & he & amy broke up, they fell out w/ their longtime mangement, & guitarist Terry Balsamo suffered a stroke! and evanescence took all that & basically put all that & more into this album making it way better than fallen! so all of you out there that are dissing this CD clearly do not know amazing music when you hear it & give them a break they've been through alot. also those of you who bought it & don't like it but keep listening to just cause you love the band stop it give the CD to somebody who does love it & doesnt have it but wants it! by the way those of you who dont understand SNOW WHITE QUEEN it's about a fan that becomes a stalker.

It's outstanding. Although I strongly believe that it includes far better songs than call me when your sober, which became single, such as lacrymosa ,sweet sacrifice and many other. Less dark than fallen but still magnificent. Only by reading the lyrics everyone could love that latest job by Evanescence |

i have to admit fallen was better and "Your Star" isn't that great of a song at all. overall though, as i am a loyal fan, i'm gonna say that i love most of the songs on this album. "Snow White Queen" and "Lithium" are my favorite songs. I like 'Sweet Sacrifice" but the beginning's a little questionable. personally i think they couldnt have picked a worst song for a first single. "Call Me When You're Sober" is their worst song in my opinion. this is my favorite band so saying that is their worst song isn't saying much, since i love it. but i seriously think they could've chosen a better song to be their single. "Lithium" is a good choise for a second one though - maybe the sales that were lost by "Call Me When You're Sober" scaring people away might be made up for. can't wait for the new video it'll be awesome. fallen is still my fave cd and even though "The Open Door" doesnt measure up at all, in their defense, no one can measure up to their first album. |

Liz is right!!! It's got the dark stuff; Which I personally LOVE! I say call me when you're sober is a great song; other disagree; they say it's over played, or just stupid.. I personally don't think it is stupid to express your feelings, even if it is in a song. Singing something sometimes is better than not saying it at all, and is sure a leap from just saying it to someone's face. Sure it's no Britney Spears or Avril Lavigne c.d, they're just annoying losers who think they can sing. But honestly, I love this cd, it's their best yet in my opinion, and I really can't wait until they come out with another one it'll be awesome!

I think evanescence is such a spiritual band, i love every song. The bonus track (which here is aussie v din get) is wondrous! I am puzzled to see people actually critizing it! Amy's voice is so deep. I can see that this album is full of new light "the open door" i think it is happier and it's going through the "getting over" stage. This album is the most amazing album I've ever heard. Sweet Sacrifice, the first song on the album, gives me a softer type of rock. Call Me When You're Sober is an amazing almost pop song. It makes me happy everytime I listen to it. Weight of the World reminds me that I don't have it the worst in the world and that I need to be unselfish. Lithium makes me realize that I am not alone in feeling alone. Other people feel alone too. Cloud Nine is an amazing song, though not my favorite. Then comes Snow White Queen. It should have been on the Narnia soundtrack beccause, after all, people did die in Narnia and it is a pretty dark movie, so how could this song be too dark for it? Lacrymosa relaxes me and makes me feel as if nothing could go wrong. Like You makes me feel like I should be nothing but myself. The Only One kind of confuses me, but I love it anyways. Then comes Your Star. This song makes me feel like I can live without some people that I rely on, and that I need to try and rely more on myself. I need to be alone once in a while. All That I'm Living For makes me realize I should live for everything that I so important in my life. Then Good Enough comes into action. This song realizes that I am good enough for anyone that I love and I shouldn't hide because I don't feel like I'll be accepted. The entire album is a beautiful one and I think this is just as good as Fallen. Whoever says this album is stupid needs to get some real taste in music and real emotions instead of faking them and faking that you have a heart. Get over it, this is the best album that I have, this and Fallen, but mainly The Open Door. |

This CD was amazing. I can't stop listening to it! Some songs can truely get to you in ways that make you feel you can relate to what Amy Lee is singing. Other songs were just enjoyable to listen to. I agree with those who gave high rate. Her voice is beautiful, its that voice that can be strong and heard above others while it still can be soft and gentle. I agree that they are more mature with there music. Its an nice change though I still love fallen. As for those who didn't like it, well I guesss it's not for you. Maybe it just grows on some people and not on others.
But I still love this CD and Evanescence. |

I love the album and i absolutely adore Amy Lee and the abnd but i rate it as an "8" for several reasons:
* It DOES take ages to get used to. I remember someone told me to listen to "FALLEN" and at first i thought " great, goth" But omg i was wrong. I am a huge fan now!
* The new material seems to be...less enjoyable. Yes, the music, Amy Lee and the lyrics are more mature, but they are also darker, and i think that will loose a LOT of listeners. The only song, in my opinion, that lives up to "FALLEN" is "Call me when ur sober" because it is not as dark and is easier to listen to.
I know the band rocks and i appreciate every single song but i hope that in future they bring out a lighter CD but either way i will buy it no matter wat!

There's only one thing you should know about being an Evanescence fan: if you don't like change, you shouldn't like Evanescence. Sorry.
This album is amazing. It took a few listens to get the feel of it, but now I'm just in love with it. Although they could have picked a different first single, I think that "Lithium" is going to blow people out of the water. That song and video are absolutly breathtaking.
I'm excited to see what's in store for them. I couldn't have picked another band to love this much, and I think I did a pretty damn good job.

Honestly, The first time I heard one of the song of The Open Door was on Myspace... When I heard Call Me When Your Sober I was seriously confused.. I didnt really know if I liked it.. It was very different yet in a good way. Clearly, after buying The Open Door I can see that Evanescence has taking a 90 degree turn but of course in a positive way!
The lyrics are SERIOUSLY AMAZING! Defenetly better than Fallen.. Fallen was is a classic dont get me wrong but the songs where more depressing. The Open Door on the other hand, still depressing yet better lyrics, beat and of course vocals. The word "depressing" isnt a bad thing, its just their style. I seriously think they did a great job! Also, think about it.. If they kept writing the same stuff as Fallen it wouldnt be cool because things worldly were different in 2003 and now 2006! Time changes, everyone changes, Im sure we all live in the present not in the past!!!
The Lyrics make the album STAND OUT! (YES PEOPLE STAND OUT!! It wasnt #1 in the Billboards and in the World Chart for no reason) 1. Sweet Sacrifice --> "Fear is only in our minds taking over all the time" 2. Call Me When Your Sober --> "Must be exhausting to lose your own game" 3. Weight Of The World --> "Don't cling to me, I swear I can't fix you, still in the dark can you fix me?" 4. Lithium --> Couldn't hide the emptiness you let it show" 5. Cloud Nine --> "In a dream will you give your love to me, beg my broken heart to beat" 6. Snow White Queen --> "There's nowhere to run so let's just get it over" 7. Lacrymosa --> "To let you blame it on me and set your guilt free" 8. Like You --> "I'm not grieving for you I'm coming for you" 9. Lose Control --> "If I cut you down to a thing I can use I fear there will be nothing good left of you" 10. The Only One --> "All our lives we've been waiting for someone to call our leader" 11. Your Star --> "How can the darkness feel so wrong" 12. All That I'm Living For --> "Guess I thought I'd have to change the world to make you see me to be the one" 13. Good Enough --> "Shouldn't have let you conquer me completely"
I Love THIS ALBUM! This just proves that they dont need Ben Moody to be successful... Although, CMWYS isnt the best of the album, song like "Lithium" (btw: I saw the video: AMAZING!), Sweet Sacrifice, Cloud Nine, and Weight of the World will bring the album into great awards...
Once again, Evanescence thank you very much for bringing such great music that one can realte to everyday!!

Clearly, these record is a lot different from Fallen. Amy herself claims that she's now grown up and so her lyrics and music changed, but in my opinion, the difference is because of Ben Moody and David Hodge's departure from the group. Have you heard any material from David or Ben separatedly from Evanescence? I think the piano in Fallen was sweeter because David composed some parts, and the lyrics were deeper and more expressive because it was Ben who added those eloquent phrases The Open Door lacks.
Still, I really like this album because what they came up with was very original and Amy's voice is unique and will blow me away no matter what she does with her music, but what I mean is that Evanescence doesn't sound the same because Evanescence is not the same anymore. |

It isn't as good as Fallen. Fallen was the best. When I listened to it the first time, I got bored with it, and the last 4 songs I couldn't stand. Then I listened to them more and now I can't stop listening to them! Your Star is cool. The beginning is shaky and not the best, but the chorus and so forth are Awesome! Adding in Terry's Stroke, Amy's breakup and Moody's absence from this album, they did a great job putting it together, but if you have Origin, you know they can do better. >.> I wish that they would do some Hardcore stuff like Lies. That was awesome. I love their soft touch and all, but I wish there were some more hardcore vocals. I ADORE Evanescnece all the same.^_^ Thanks for your time! ~le~squiggle~ |

I think they have become more elegant, somewhat strange, something that if you listen to and think abot the lyrics you're hair on your back will raise. They are profound in their lyrics and it is clear that you have to have more depth to love this album. People who type such as "well thiz album doesn't work at all as the last one did!! FALLEN was Awesome!! but i dont know something is missin in thiz album!!" is quite clear that there is no profoundity in them, no offence to them.
This album is constructed through trauma and drama. No wonder why some people dont like it.

The first time you listen to "The Open Door", it will not jump out at you like some of the previous hits had. And frankly, it is hard to top some of the hits in Anywhere But Home.
But it grows on you. After a couple of times, the listener starts thinking there is one or two good songs in this album. Another few sessions, and the "one or two" becomes "three or four".
Personally, I like Sweet Sacrifice. We are definitely seeing a harder Amy Lee in this album. What I like about this album is that it is their music, and they not trying to appeal to the market with some formula.
And oh yeah, she has a great voice!!! |

The Open Door isn't the best album by Evanescence, but it was decent. You have to listen to it at least 5 times, so it'd grow on you, unlike Fallen, which catched your attention at the first time.
The biggest mistake in this album was Call Me When You're Sober. I don't like this song. At all. It's something that you would not expected from Evanescence, because it is below the usual standard.
All That I'm Living For, Lithium, Lacrymosa, and Snow White Queen saved the album, however. These songs are beautiful both lyrically and melodically.
The flowing piano of Good Enough was lovely, but I did not particularly enjoy the lyric. I don't know why.
Overall, The Open Door was a good album, and one that all Evanescence's fans should listen to. It might not be as catchy and moving as Fallen or Anywhere But Home, but it is definitely worth listening to. |

I quite agree with most comments, it was a very different album from Fallen, but that does not mean that it is bad. It is an album that needs no introduction, it speaks for itself, showing maturity in the band, putting aside a bit the continuos mourning given in Fallen. This album shows much more strength & power, as well as the ability to beleive in yourself, to be as real as possible. With many musical & vocal variations it is a wonderful album. When i first heard CMWYS, i was mostly dissapointed, i wasnt really getting that normal Evanescence feeling, i felt like their was something missing, although i found it a very catchy track. After seeing the videoclip i was even more dissapointed, finding it to be a very commercialized version of Evanescence. I still find this the less amusing track on the album, but still it shows quite enough strengh in the lyrics. As for the rest of the album, i must say that i am quite impressed. It didnt follow Fallen's foot-steps wich was nice, due to the fact that it showed versatility in their ability as artists & with not wanting to bore their fans with continuous re-releases. I love Fallen & i think that it cannot be compared to TOD, due to heavy differences. TOD showed huge difference in their work. You are first introduced to a very strong track (Sweet Sacrifice), showing a less mourning Amy, ready to confront truth & reality. Following up is CMWYS, described above. WOTW, is yet another track that expresses strength on not giving up. Lithium show´s in lyrics what i consider the most depressing & loss of clarity, by "staying in love with my sorrow". It stands on the edge of sanity, falling deeper in to madness & loving it. C9, is one of my fav. tracks, starting off with a very damped atmosphere marked by sinister vocals, leading to a very heart spoken & heavier mood. SWQ, starts off with a sonority that flashes a rather solitary place, taking on to a climax of fragility, "losing my mind and you just stand there and stare as my world divides". Next up is the Mozart inspired track (Lacrymosa). Not just the most powerfull track, but also the most Fallen related track in my opinion, reminding me of Tourniquet, Whisper & others, due to the marking use of violins. Lose Control transmits a very sinister & dark feeling, actually the heaviest of the album. TOO makes me feel like i'm really not the only one, i'm not alone. Like You has a beautiful lullaby introduction, so calm & perfect. Unlike most tracks, it continues calm & inspiring with few sonority changes, causing a wonderful elaborated track, longing for peace of mind. Your Star shows that metaphors are still alive in the band, like the "mechanical lights of Lisbon". ATILF is a great track on this album, a very nice heavy edge on the chorus. The ending track could not have been better chosen, starting off with a no-vocals intro, leading to a peacfull ballad, ending equally calm & relaxing. It makes the album feel like a journey with many variations, with ups & downs, strength & fragility, madness & clarity, but in the end all is good, good enough...

I think the new album is discusting. It's discusting in the fact that the first album, you could hear amy along with excellent backup guitar and every instrument was complimented. And this album is all about her. And she went and did some Sheryl Crow shit on call me when you're sober and sold out. She's now in the same category as britney and all the people she claimed to have hated on her first album. My honest opinion is that if Moody was still playing with them, this wouldn't happen. The whole album sounds the same. I can't tell you one song that i can say has an awesome guitar riff in it because there isnt any worth remembering! It's just not the same and i was so pumped to hear they were doing a second album. when i got the cd i was so scared of the first single i just knew it was going to be bad. And low and behold, i listened to it, for weeks. Just TRYING to force myself to find something good about it. But, if you were a die hard fan of the first album, you just cant grasp the new album. It's an utter disappointment and now my once favorite band is no more. |

1. Sweet Sacrifice - I like this song because of Amy's voice and the guitar sounds. When it gets to "all the time" part of the song I just sit in awe. It just sounds like a heavy metal song to me. 2. Call Me When You're Sober - This song is catchy and I think it's a good follow up as the starting single. If you haven't noticed on Fallen Bring Me to Life was the second track as well as CMWYS on the Open Door. Funny isn't it.. Anyway her voice is awesome and the music is moving. 3. Weight of the World - Personally favorable, strong music and powerful words. 4. Lithium - I like this song; she rocks. 5. Cloud Nine - My favorite part of this song is when she sings "high". I like to cross my eyes and move my head side to side when I hear it. 6. Snow White Queen - It's a good song, don't get me wrong, but I don't like the way the beginning starts. 7. Lacrymosa - This is one of my favorites. I love how she used Mozarts music and the vocals in the back to work with her lyrics and voice. Completely original. 8. Like You - I didn't know the meaning behind the song until now. Its heartbreaking to me. 9. Lose Control - I like it in general but I thought it could use a little bit more work. 10. The Only One - Whenever I hear the beginning of this song, I also go quack quack quack. I absolutely love this song. 11. Your Star - i don't like it too much. 12. All That I'm Living For - opposite of number 11. I also love the acoustic versions of this song. 13. Good Enough - When I heard this song, I immediately thought of her winning a Grammy for this one. Its soothing and happy, something the band has done for me over the 3 years. Other and all, I think it is better than with Fallen. |

Not as good as Fallen. But then...when Fallen is a album that is probably one of the TOP TEN MAINSTREAM ALBUMS OF ALL TIME, it's hard to be as good as Fallen.
Lacrymosa is great. Lithium is great. Good Enough is *almost but not quite* "My Immortal" great.
Of course, if I IGNORE the first three songs, it gets a ten.
The Open Door is great to excellent. It's not a MASTERPIECE like Fallen was. |

An excellent album, Amy Lee's emotions really shine through. It's great to see an artist that writes their own material, an Amy does a fantastic job. A must-listen-to for all! |

I think this is a great album, I don´t know if it is better or worst than fallen 'cause i think they're different. My favorite song are like you, lithium, lacrymosa, cloud nine(althout it took me a while to get use to it, like the entire album)and of course call me when you're sober. But probably the best song is Good enough, i don't know if it is the piano at the begining or her voice (still as good than in the previous albums) but i just can't stop listen to it. Although perhaps it hasn't got the same power of fallen it has beautiful melodies and lyrics, but i have to say my favorite it still fallen.

The Open Door is excellent in my opinion I don't understand some of the harsh reviews in the press. Maybe it doesn't hook as instantly as Fallen but Amy's beautiful haunting voice and the deep dark emotive atmosphere produced by the music is still there.
Sweet Sacrifice is a good opener because it shows a powerful strength and will in Amy to let out her feelings in the aftermath of a recent breakup.
Call Me When You're Sober isn't too bad but is probably my least favourite Evanescence single. It lacks that harder edge and departs from the style I enjoy. I don't hate it but I don't love it!
I would say the pick of the tracks for me are Lacrymosa with the high toned backing vocals it is very atmospheric. I love 'All That I'm Living For' because of the power to Amy's voice right at the start and it continues through the song. Lose Control I really like too, Amy's voice really suits the varying pace and she excels with both siren like sounds and deeper tones in her voice.
There aren't any bad songs but Snow White Queen, Like You and Weight of the World are also quality, while the beautiful Lithium has restored my faith in Evanescence singles.
I'll give The Open Door ten because I love Amy Lee's voice and passion so much and the album exceeded expectations. Also I am going to see them here in Sydney in February. Can't Wait! |

well, all I can say, is that I just love this band! their very first album Origin was awesome, i love all the songs, and Fallen has awesome rock songs that just pump you up! Anywhere but home had alot of Fallen's songs live, and i thought that was sweet! then... the open door... i love it! i heard the first few songs on myspace, and i was hooked!! i love Call me when you're sober, and sweet sacrifice! Good enough was so breathtaking, Like you was breathtaking like good enough, weight of the world was just as cool as Going under, cloud nine, snow white queen, lacrymosa, the only one, and your star have that same almost creepy feeling that haunted and even in death have. Lithium was soo cool, and then all im living for was just tight! the only song i don't like as much as the others is lose control, but merely for my own personal reasons, nothing against the band or song. basically, i thought this cd was as good as its predecessors. i love every song i've heard from Evanescence, which places them as my continued favorite band! I can't wait for the next album!!! |

All the people who are saying this album is a load of rubbish really need to sort themselves out. Fallen yes was a great album but this has a more dark and interesting sound. They have come back to us after been away for a while with an awesome album give them some credit for god sake. You can really tell they have took their time in trying something different Lithium is by far the best song on it you guys ROCK!!! |

I wasn't sure the first time i heard it I though "hmm so different from Fallen" but the more I hear it the more i love it. THe songs speak to me in many ways. . .in pain. . .in anger & even hope. The song "Snow White Queen" is an amazin' hauntin' song. . .Sweet Sacrifice & Call Me When Your Sober were great "i just broke up with my boyfriend" songs. Lithium is one of those songs that seem to speak my heart. . .Lose Control. . .well yes i've wanted to lose control just for once. . .My fave is probaly Your Star right now. . .a place i am at now in my life.
I think this album is amazing, as is the band. I'm constantly amazed by their talent, lyrics & Amy's haunting, amazing voice (im so jealous). I love this album. |

Yeah you could say I liked it...I liked everything except for Lacrymosa. Are all songs titled Lacrymosa/Lacrimosa sound like this or are they copying each other?
My faves are Sweet Sacrifice, Lose Control, Weight of the World, Call Me When You're Sober...yeah pretty much all of them except for Lacrymosa since I'm getting mixed emotions from it since I'm not sure if the tune is copied or not. |

I have to say, I truly and deeply love this album. I was an Evanescence fan from the beginning. How I rejoiced when Evanescence was finally reconized after Fallen. But with that type of hype, I thought that Evanescence would just sell albums to get money. How wrong I was. Though I felt like they strayed from their original style, I fell in love with them all over again. Amy stays true to her haunting voice, with this time around more mature lyrics. The overall chemistry of the band stays true to hand Fallen and Origins fans everywhere a true masterpiece. Can't wait for Jan. 5th's concert!!!! |

Phenominal! Like just about very reviewer before me, the first time i heard this album i wasn't impressed. Now I realise that it was because I was used to Fallen's sound, i think the band were smart in releasing Call Me When You're Sober because it really does finish what fallen had started for them, and it's been successful so far. For about 4 weeks Lithium was by far my favourite song, even though I loved them all. The lyrics just grabbed me and i think that Amys voice was made for the piano and guitar in that song. Sweet Sacrifice is a fantastic opener for the album, the first line "it's true we're all..." confirms to the albums listners that this album is much more literal. Brilliant song. Weight of the World and All that I'm living for remain my least favourite songs, yet i still love them hehe, i just feel that they have the least depth on the album. The album really begins to shine and show how the band has evoloved after Lithium. Cloud Nine is an absolute standout, and is now my fave, I'm tipping that this song will follow Lithium as the third single, or if not it will be the fourth, al i know is that Amy wrote this song for it to be released. It creates a dark atmosphere and I would love to see a film clip for it. I could go on forever and talk about each song but there isnt enough space on this page!! After Cloud Nine, the standouts are Lacrymosa, The Only ONe, Your Star and Good Enough. To sum it up, 13 brilliant tracks, THE BEST ALBUM OF 2006, they will be picking up a lot of awards for this album and its releases next year ... |

Ok heres what I have to say about the whole thing. It wasn't what I expected, especially after hearing fallen. The songs were way different and not as nearly in your head type lyrics were used in this album like the previous one. However, after hearing it over a few times it caught up to me and I ended up liking more than before. Sure the songs aren't like Haunted or Whisper but they're still good. Even though Ben Moody left the band, Evanescence is still good enough for me. |

This time they focused on the album as a whole, and it strays quite well. Its deep, and its a good sleep album. I would give it a 10, but only if they would have been even more experimental musically and added some crazy bridges, that and extended, progressive tracks. I also think they should get recognition for having fun, cause if you listen to alot of these tracks, especially during the choruses, they sound like they are really enjoying it. |

I will admit the first time I listened to the open door; I did skip some songs half way through them. I just didn’t like them all that much. Then when I listen to the whole thing it wasn’t as bad then when I left it I had the songs stuck in mi head. The album shows Amy Lee’s great vocal range. Really I have to say that I love it now!!! The more I listen to it the more I like it!!! And the people that are saying they didn’t like it listen to it again and again and start singing along you’ll start to like it more. Even my brother likes it and he’s a classical man. Any way I’m off, have fun, live long, stay true and don’t juge a book by its cover!!!

I love Evanescene's new album The Open Door. Amy Lee's vocals are like no ones you have ever heard before. Their songs are getting better and better. I still love their first album Fallen and its hard to make a bigger and better album because you have to top that. To all of you haters you guys would not know really music if you heard it. Evanescence rox. Also, the album can from the pain and the emotion from her boyfriend from the band seether because he checked himself into rehab and they broke up, so their second album it defantly my favorite out of both of them. |

Im giving this new album an 8. Only because i liked fallen and then i stumbled onto the disgoraphy with songs from orgin, and almost all of their unreleased items. the song that i fell in love with the most on the album was "like you," and the bonus track "the last song im waisting on you." these two songs i love dearly and for some odd reason the album that has been currently released always shadows my current life some how in a way...wierd. i will always be an ev fan and i will be behind them supporting them for good! im not one of those fans who loved "bring me to life" that song was not their best work. and i dont stand by ev just for that cd. all of their work. (earlier is alot better i think) is awsome stuff. |
