The Glaswegian trio the Fratellis are the opposite of Franz Ferdinand. A rebuttal of art school cool, their lairy glamrock throws off the genre’s tendency towards effeminacy and kitsch by reducing it to its core of stomping rhythms, chunky riffs and terrace choruses.

The Fratellis have come good at a good time for their sound and can claim advantage on the pulling power of these songs. Staying power is less predictable, but for the band, their fans and indeed those they will pick up along the way, this ride is one to join in and enjoy before the wheels end up needing a good change.

The album is basically a string of one-sided sexual jousts, risky pick-ups of dodgy birds swiftly followed by rasping put-downs of them: the "young soul shagger beggin' me to bag her" in "Ole Black'n'Blue Eyes"; the girl in "Flathead" he saw "one time at the back of the club, chewing on glass and a ticket stub"; the hippie chick who takes his cherry in her camper van in "Got Ma Nuts From A Hippy".

It's been a long time since I've heard some really good garage rock. Maybe I just bump into the wrong people, but I seem to keep hearing either the screaming screeching rock or the low-voiced power balladeers singing "Look at this photograph". The Fratellis bring back a rock-'n'-roll-for-the-fun-of-it attitude I haven't heard for a long time. Granted, they aren't exactly deep. But you can't really sing "death and grief and sorrow and murder" to their catchy melodies (well, at least they caught me). Maybe in coming years they will bring deep inflection to their craft and earn the pedestal NME puts them on. But for now the Fratellis are a great band you can play for a party. |

Its fun, jumpy , rock out music. I've read seceral reviews that discount the fun that they bring to the music. Yes we know that the lyrics are overtly sexual and the music lacks depth, but that not what we listen to it for. Fun and just more pure fun. |

i went to see the fratellis in concert at the manchester apollo becuase ive allways loved the fratellis. They were amazing and their lyrics make their songs what they are, apart from their staggering performance. The lyrics may be very sexual, but who cares... their a class band that will last forever.. love em!!!! |

The first song i heard from the Fratellis was Flathead. I like it; it's jumpy, catchy, and fun to listen to. Okay, they don't exactly send very deep messages, but the songs just have this incredibly catchy beat to them, you can't help but tap your foot along the music! Fratellis, keep the crazy! |

It's early, but this is easily the rock album of the year. You can't skip a song; it's fun, fresh and leaves you begging for more. I haven't felt this fulfilled since The Strokes' "Is This It" in 2001. |
