Dog Problems comes highly recommended for fans of brilliant pop that enjoy a little musical experimentation, great lyrics, and poetic depth. There is so much more to this album then a cursory listen reveals and so much more to this band then "clapping your hands" or "stomping your feet."   Full text...

Takes a while to get used in comparison to their last cd... The change to pop is both good and bad..still, each song tells a story that most people can relate to and that is key

this is the best cd of the year... hands down!!! if you think it sounds different, you are absolutely right!! it is different than any other cd you can buy, and it is well worth it!

Noname Rating: 9.0

I like this cd far more than their prior album. It has a fun sound and interesting lyrics.

Easily one of the most creative albums I've ever listened to. All my other CD's I get sick of. Not this one. The production of it harkens back to a sound similar to that of Harry Niellson. Except with a modern feel and technical flourish! Lots of horns, but that's not to say it sounds like it belongs as a soundtrack to a broadway musical. A bit step from their last album, 2003's Intervention and Lullabies, Dog Problems shows the dramatic evolution in songwriting from vocalist Nate Ruess and musicianship of founding member Sam Means. Maybe when they run out of ideas, they can try writing...a bad song? Good luck with that...

This album is definately experimental, with the instruments, song structure, and lyrics but thats what makes The Format so uniquely amazing. Their eccentricity leaves never a dull moment when listening to the record. I also loved the fact that there was no song that seemed to be just a 'filler'. It seems like they genuinely believe in the greatness and apeal every song they put out. I can't wait to see what they come out with next...

I haven't been able to take this CD out of my player, off my iTunes, and out of my car since I've bought it (I'm actually listening to it right now). It's an amazing CD that mixes fun pop beats with lyrics that have actual meaning. Plus, it's something different. It's refreshing to hear something that doesn't sound like everything else being released in music right now. I'd definitely reccomend it to anyone who needs to add a little something different to their music collection.

I've been listening to The Format for years and this album, despite it's pop categorization, is thick and rich with craftsmanship of musicians. The depth of lyrics is fantastic and meaningful, and the musical arrangements are so alive they feel like you wrote them. If you don't own this CD, you need to.

I've barely started listening to The Format because my brother is a big fan. I think the music is very realistic and poetic. Every song hits an event in your life. If you dont own their CD, you need to drop some money and buy it.

I didn't care for this album as musch as Interventions and Lullibies. The first record was far better and this one does have alot of creative new stuff it doesn't have a hook for radio play like the first album. I like She Dosen't get it it is the only song on this album that sounds like the first. If it ain't broken don't fix it.

Lexi Rating: 8.0

I believe its nothing compared to the first album, until you listen to it a few time. The accoustics in Intervention and Lullabies were amazing, but the experimental sounds of Dog problems needed getting used to. But of more value than either of those things, I give this a 8 and no less because of the lyrics. The Format puts situations into words more complex than any other band ever has. I seriously cannot see how 2 reccord labels have dropped these incredible musicians.
