There are two very different sets of musicians here, separated by generation, genre and even nationality, yet Cold as the Clay was recorded in a week and sounds wonderfully effortless.

The songs are slow, folky, and have a bit of a old country western feel to it. If you are a fan of Bad Religion, you might be disappointed because you’re probably expecting something punk rock.

Cold as the Clay is adequate, even a nice change of pace for ears used to Pennywise and a million other Bad Religion knock-offs, but he's too much of a dilettante to make Cold as the Clay anything more than a bag of mildly pleasing Americana.

The album has the feel of a folk singer traveling on the rails or the high seas; simple songs that are taught to other travelers over beers or a warm fire or sitting tucked in the corner playing in a dark, dirty pub.
