Mouse's bleak scenery means it's not as immediate as the self-titled debut, but get past the dark stuff and Demon Days reveals a stash of songs that are more fun than a Hong Kong Phooey marathon.

A concise and enjoyable 50 minutes, Demon Days is so much more than just a rock star's novelty side project or thinly veiled solo album. It's a triumph for all concerned and should rightfully end the year as being one of its finest and most celebrated releases.

Demon Days would be hard pressed to match the mainstream appeal of Gorillaz, but it's a significantly better album.

The project's goal seems pretty simple: Mix together some disorienting cut-and-paste DJ noise, throw in some guests (mostly rappers), tie in a loose, tone-setting narrative to go with the visuals of the CD booklet and videos, and hope the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

Gorillaz is big business now, and what may have started out as a virtual cartoon cooking up a dub-hip-hop-indie-electronica stew has boiled over into a too-serious stab at global commentary sprinkled over gristle-tough beats

Compared to other artists', Damon Albarn's playroom chest must be filled to bursting: the cultural drawer cluttered with horror films, anime, and rock'n'roll stereotypes; the musical drawer crammed full of dub, hip-hop, dancehall, and afropop. In fact, Albarn seems to have so many creative distractions tempting his muse...

Four years after Gorillaz' 2001 debut, is Damon Albarn's cartoon side project still worth the shtick? The answer is a qualified yes. Gorillaz' second studio album, Demon Days, is a hit-or-miss pastiche of art pop, hip-hop, dub and dance.

I really don't like the rap sections of the songs, but the music is new and differnt. It has a lot of meaning and thought it the songs. I bought the CD after watching their concert on direct tv. It was great and I wnt out and got the cd as soon as i could. I wasn't disappointed, and you should'nt be neither if you are willing to listen to something thats like no other. |

This is probably the best album I've bought in ages. It's still dark and offbeat like it's predecessor but the music can appeal to anyone willing to listen. It's unique, but most importantly it's fun. |

What I like about the Gorillaz is that they make a song with so many different styles put into one work. |

The Gorillaz are awesome. What is so awesome about them is that they are unique. I don't think that they are like other bands. |
