Gomez is what I would like to listen to on the radio if I listened to the radio.  Full text...

StylusMagazine Rating: 9.1

The worst thing about an album this good is counting on the B-sides to see you through the wait for the next one.  Full text...

Entertainment Weekly Rating: 8.3

They land a bull's-eye, as career high points like the peppy power-pop ''Girlshapedlovedrug'' and peacenik sing-along ''See the World'' point to a renovated Gomez and a winning new way to Operate.  Full text...

FasterLouder Rating: 8.0

Ten years on, How We Operate continues to allow Gomez unique musical vision to shine bright. The loyalty and respect continues…   Full text...

Popmatters Rating: 8.0

This is probably the rootsiest record they’ve made, which is not going to win them many adherents in the “music must be shiny, new, and squelchy” club.  Full text...

InsidePulse Rating: 7.5

Record that's damn near perfect musically that doesn't necessarily jar your system with technicalities and new ideas.   Full text...

SoundsXP Rating: 7.0

They're not trying to reinvent sliced bread, only rediscover why they toasted it in the first place (analogy: stretched). With its alt/country infectious chorus and undertones of foot-stomping Appalachia, the buoyant "See the World" is welcome mead in a world saturated with dark, brooding, pseudo-serious "rock." Replete with "sha-la-la-la-la-la" and gorgeous female backing vocals, this song proves that the words "pop" and "authenticity" are not mutually exclusive.  Full text...

That growly guy still sounds great.  Full text...

Lunapark6 Rating: 6.5

The songs on the new album are generally more adult oriented/mature rock songs that will appeal to past Gomez fans and is way better then expected.  Full text...

Times Online Rating: 6.0

The drawling has been replaced by a lighter mood, hummable melodies and the real sense that they're having fun — never more so than on Girlshapedlovedrug.  Full text...

ShakingThrough Rating: 6.0

Basically, pretty, understated, and occasionally engaging.  Full text...

Hybrid Magazine Rating: 6.0

Taken song by song, Gomez has always been a band that stretches genre and sonic boundaries without hesitation, moving chameleon-like from one bit of music to the next with hardly a look both ways before crossing melodic streets. On their new release, How We Operate, the band seems to have calmed things down a small bit, focusing in on a narrower spectrum of sound, without losing that inimitable spark that is distinctly Gomez.  Full text...

PrefixMag Rating: 6.0

There aren't any real missteps, but neither is How We Operate a step forward.  Full text...

Crud Magazine Rating: 6.0

The door is wide-open, the pressure is off and Gomez are slowly coming to terms with being a half-decent band.  Full text...

The Music Box Rating: 6.0

In toning down its quirky tendencies in order to achieve a greater following, as it does on portions of How We Operate, it significantly reduces the potency of its material.  Full text...

Entertainment Ireland Rating: 6.0

HWO is not so much a big bang comeback, as a breezy return.   Full text...

Solid rather than spectacular.  Full text...

The Independent Rating: 6.0

At last, the songs sound like songs again, and pretty decent songs for the first two-thirds of the album, at least.  Full text...

Guardian Rating: 6.0

How We Operate is a pop album that sounds as if the band have left the studio and gone outside for some fresh air.  Full text...

Blogcritics Rating: 6.0

Gomez is steering clear of success in terms of stardom. Success in terms of talent is another story.  Full text...

Virgin Rating: 6.0

This, their new album, chugs along contemplatively and with a much more radio-focused sound.  Full text...

Absolutely awesome. Great variety - they sound different in each song. Great lyrics, great feel. I don't have any prior cd's of theirs, but I may have to change that if they are as good as How We Operate.
