With this self-produced disc, the Boston-based quartet stands rigidly still in the face of evolution, simply revisiting the formula splashed out on its 1998 self-titled debut.

On its sixth album, this Boston band's sound is still mired in new-metal darkness, underpinning Sully Erna's constipated yowl with stylized guitar sludge.

Godsmack’s fourth album—like the three that preceded it—never rises the group above the level of a totally competent cover band.

Same downtuned guitars chugging and roaring like dinosaurs. Same tom-toms rolling like tumbling boulders. Same huffing, puffing, testosterone-fuelled Vedder vocals and brooding lyrics about Sully's feelings.

Sully lyrics and vocals seem to flow right into me and connects in a way that no other has in a long time. This is a fantastic cd and they should be proud of it. Can't wait for the next one. Keep on rocking guys. |

Really, those critics can ... go to hell. Godsmack's more than GREAT. "Shine Down" the best ever... |

This was my first 'true' exposure to Godsmack, and the poetry is astounding. I'm hooked, and look forward to another album... |

A little disappointed that they toned down a bit on this album. Sully tried a few new things that didn't quite work out. Temptation was the only stand-out song. Voodoo Too was a cheap retread. |

The critics really dont know what their talking about. While this isn't Godsmack's best, it still tops all of the newest opposing artists. Their all wanna-bes that know little and speak much. |

This album is rough but it also has a very melodic vibe to it, whitch sets the mood of relation you feel as if you're there talkig directly to him you can understand what is being delt "Mama" HELL YEAH that song is the Shit! |

I have to give props to the band. But I feel they lost it in this record. I was expecting something like Awake or some of there old stuff. Wheres The band I fell in love with. |

This album, in my opinion, was a huge let down. I love Godsmack and respect them as one of the most amazing bands I've ever listened to. And this is the first CD I can't listen completely without cringing. Sully sounds beat, and it sounds like hes trying to pick up a new style to give the band a renewed 'uniqueness'. Every band dies out at some point, because uniqueness gets worn away with repetition. 4+ albums does it. |

I have tons of respect for Godsmack considering i'm going to see them live. But this album "IV" didn't quite bring to the floor like it's prodecers...It's still got the hard rock vibe and strong lyrics but it deffitly sounds like the band is dying down. |

Awful album. Complete letdown. Seems like they almost pulled a "St. Anger". Hope to see better from the boys in the future. |

this was the best album yet. sully stepped back a little in song writing and let the rest of the band do most of it. and hollow is the shit but voodoo too was kinda dumb |
