For now, we'll reserve absolute judgment, but if Idiot Pilot take their best ideas here and develop them for album number two, they might just be onto something magnificently original.

Idiot Pilot's Strange We Should Meet Here, is a bit of what-if, showing us what we might have heard when musicians started catching the electronic bug if rock wasn't in such a dismal state.

They have also collaborated with Deftones for a version of "Teenager" that was featured on their "B-Sides and Rarities" compilation.

Strange We Should Meet Here, the Washington duo's Reprise debut, aligns these disparate elements for a sound that's jarring, interesting, frustrating, and ambitious.

Unfortunately, unnecessary details ruin Strange We Should Meet Here. For example, there's no reason for the Linkin Park screams that taint these tracks.

Perhaps the most amazing part of all though is to learn that Idiot Pilot is the brainchild of two eighteen year olds. Their musical genius (and I mean genius) belies their tender age. It's not an easy listen, but you can't expect to travel to another dimension without a little turbulence.

It's just two kids with way too much access to recording equipment, the musical equivalent of a monkey with a hand grenade.

your entitled to ur opinion Splendidezine but linkin park is the greatest band ever If u ever acctually took the time to listen to chester bennington's voice instead of haveing ur head up ur ass you'd know that he has a really soulful voice and it can be heard in his former band "grey daze" or any slow songs like breaking the habit live version or any of his solo projects. so don't be so ignorant all your life (a and i dont care about whatever this album is |

SHUT UP. idiot pilot is NOT just two kids with too much acess to recording equipment. They are amazing. Daniel and Michael are so talented. Also Michael has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. |

I don't understand why people think Screaming "taints" Idiot Pilots songs. First of all, They are a "Scremo", electronica band. So don't expect anything less then screaming. I think it adds alot of emotion to the song and puts more stress onto the important lyrics that really meen something. No disrespect, but I wouldn't even try to compare Linkin Park to idiot pilot. Their not even close. |

I love this album and with good reason, but i can't be bothered to go into why on a site such as this. This is mainly to a) Back up Moriah and lladan's comments (apart from him basically saying linkin park are rubbish) and some of the "pro" reviewers really need to open their mind and their ears to new talent such as this. b)I just want to say thet MusicOHM.com rate out of 5 so their 4 is 4 out of 5 (8.0 out of 10) the type of score this amazing album deserves |

First, I'm not going to lie, Idiot Pilot is about amazing. Second, for someone to compare Idiot Pilot to Linkin Park.....it's just uncalled for....They're two completely different bands that play two completely different styles of music. Third, just because a band chooses to take a more electronic approach to their instrumentals does not give anyone the right to ridicule them, especially if they do it correctly. This is something that sets Idiot Pilot apart from most other electronic-oriented bands: they don't over do it. Certainly, if you look at the proportions, they have FAR more electronically generated sounds (only one guitar, sometimes two), but the songs are put together in a way that seems almost no more "electronica" than a band with synth and keyboardist..."But Ian, most bands have some type of keyboardist or synth these days." I know. That's my point.
But seriously, bitterness aside, if you're a fan of indie rock and/or screamo with a tasty indie touch, then I DEFINITELY recommend that you give this album (and band as a whole) a try. You WON'T be disappointed. |
