As you'd expect, the twin themes of "I'm back!" and "I'm rich!" dominate the album, with the briefest of nods to the more socially-conscious issue of America's post-Katrina shame in "Minority Report" - suggesting that, for all his verbal facility, Jay-Z could use a touch more imagination as regards subject matter.

For arguably one of the most eagerly anticipated hip-hop releases of all time, Jay-Z's Kingdom Come opens in an incredibly low key manner. While The Prelude is lyrically spot on, the beat is unsuited to being the track that confirms what we all knew anyway - that the Jigga man's retirement was an impossible farce.

Kingdom Come comes with impossible expectations, anything short of a classic album is going to leave most Jay fans let down. Jay-Z may just be hip-hop's greatest emcee with among its finest catalogues, but that doesn't make these expectations reasonable.

The album is weakest when Jay fronts like he knows where he\'s going and strongest when he lets it all hang out. At its best, Kingdom Come is about possibility. At its worst, it pales in comparison to past albums. But, like Chrisette Michelle sings on \"Lost Ones,\" sometimes you have to lose some to win some.

Unlike The Black Album, Kingdom Come is far from a suitable curtain call to the MC's legacy, and it's unlikely he'll let it end here. Whenever that next album makes it to the shelves, let's just hope it's there because he has something to say instead of rapping to hear himself rap.

It may not sound like a record made by a label boss, but it does sound like a record made by someone aware that their label was in desperate need of a big hit, and that he is that label's biggest star. Hopefully, next time, he will find the time to add to his catalogue of masterpieces.

Oh, don't make that face - at its heart, commercial hip-hop's all about the dollar, dinero, paper, greenbacks, cash, and Come's story is in large part one of rap's financial viability at this point in time (fading, it seems), so there's nothing crass about making these predictions or forecasts and wondering what it all means, especially when this sort of conjecture is infinitely more interesting than actually sitting down and listening to the entitled, luche-hemmoraging sitting Def Jam president lazily turn one recycled rhyme after another new-but-lame one as the tamed, R&B-suited work of the genre's hottest producers hums behind him and pretty much does all of his work for him.

O.k it wasn't his best album thats not hard to tell but those who really know hip hop can easily tell he still has it after listening to the album and eventhough it fell a little short of classic I think its still a good album . For all yall haters yall must not no good music when it slaps you in the face maybe yall should slow the music down and listen to the lyrics the guy is a genius . |

Definitely not at 'The Blueprint' or 'The Black Album' status, but it's not bad either. I would say 'Kingdome Come' is just a good album, not at all a great one. It's still better than most of the dumb stuff out right now. This album is definitely not a classic but people are only dissing it b/c the expectations were a little unfair. But when your the best at what you do, that's how it's gonna be. Jay-Z is still my boy, and I think that a 7 is a fair rating. |

This is different to what Jay has put out before but what did you expect? Young Hov' is not so young anymore, he has seen it all and has more to reflect on. This is a quality 'comeback' album...the top three tracks..."Trouble", "Kingdom Come" & "Beach Chair". The hip hop game has missed Jay, no doubt about it, with the exception of TI, Kanye West and to a certain point Young Jeezy...no one has really offered anything. With Eminem popping up again and Obie and Lloyd Banks dropping albums hopefully Jigga can be the one that gets others to raise their game. Overall album rating 9/10...great album, nice flow and class production! Welcome back Jay <> |

Look people, its goes without saying it not the black album. But, you know what kingdom come sounds alot better than anything that came out this year. We need Jay-Z there, so maybe these other cats will step there game up. Becuase HIP-HOP is suffering right know from this "lets get a beat and make a dance to and we good". If thats HIP-HOP... **** it you can have it. |

Because of the time right now w/all this garbage coming this. This album would be a 10 if it were a blank cd w/jay's name. But 4 real Jay-Z is the best alive. None of these so-called rappers would have stood a chance thru the 90s. Nobody listens 2 music (the words), thats why they consider the best rappers out, the ones with a little buzz (thats all it is). So as far as rap goes with me there wont be any more GREAT rappers after Jay-z (Nas also). Maybe im a little bias but thats my opinion of rap at its current stage which is at its worst by the way. So to all the haters think of Kingdome Come as a favor to the game cuz it was in a hole. Like he said on the title track "Not only N.Y.C. I'm hip hop's savior, So after this flow you might owe me a favor." And we do so everybody say it with me (haters too) THANKS JAY!!!! |

I Bet Most Of Yall That Are Downin Kingdom Come Are From The South, Yall Like That Bull$h!t Music, For Example "Walk It Out" If Thats Hip Hop, Hip Hop Is Def. Commin To An End! I Dont See Myself "Walkin It Out" 5 More Years From Now, Not Even 5 More Weeks, But In 20 More Years I Can See Me Still Singin This "The Ferrari or Jaguar, Switchin Four Lanes With The Top Down Screamin Out Money Ain't A Thang!" Anyways, Any Real Rap Fan Feels Jay, Each Track Have Its Own Theme, The Album Is Bananas, I Got Kingdom Come The Day It Dropped, Every Since I Opened It, Put It In The Car, His CD NEVER Been Ejected, I Forgot My Radio Stations. Theres Only One Finger Print On It And Its Mines! Jay In My Opinion Keep Makin Cd's Until You Cant Talk No More, Even If You Cant Talk, Make Poems!

Jigga is the illest rapper out there. I dont see why so many people are hating on the album at all. Just because it doesnt size up with reasonable doubt or the black album doesnt mean his album is bad. He just took his rap skills to another type of beats and tried it out. I think hes got everything he left with still. |

This album is just fire! I can honestly say that Jay has matured since the drop of Reasonable Doubt, but it has been 10 years. Jay was obviously angry during the recording of this album, because he displays his anger in alot of the tracks, more than usual. If you can understands that change in people and music than you can appreciate this album. I mean beside my Home boys T.I. & Jeezy no one has put out any quality work since Jay left. Maybe with his return you can look forward to at least another quality album a year. Hands down Kingdom Come is worth the 12.99 from Tower Records! |

one of the best albums to drop this year. other than Hova the only rapper who album his hot in opinion this year to drop was Game. After hearing both of Jay-Z and The Game albums I honestly think them two and Nas and Jezzy should make an album. and I think what Wayne said stupid as fuck. He just try to get some beef so he can get some respect. but really he his rhymes suck and he really didn't even write his own shit. but real talk thanks Hova for comin back. cuz i mean you comin back is like MJ when he came back. |

I think the album speaks for itself. Yeah I had the bootleg before its release but I still went out and bought the cd. Come on now its HOV we talking about here. We needed this cd as NAS said hiphop is dead. With songs like chicken noodle soup and laffy taffy being played on the radio we needed this album. I think that Jim Jones scratch that the Dipset period is mad at that mans success. Yeah Jones sold whatever records as an independent artist blah blah. But answer me these 2 questions. What does Hov have to prove because he has done everything that any rapper is trying to do. He has set the bar. Last question. WHO YOU KNOW BETTER THAN HOV RIDDLE ME THAT? LOL........ |

u cant deny his skills as a rapper cuz he has the most consecutive number 1 albums in hip hop and he is number three on the list of artists with most number 1 albums. People like rappers like Jim Jones so much but the better rapper is shown in the record sales. Hov sold 700,000 jis first week and jim jomes only sold 92,000. |

ATTENTION! MTV has voted Jay-z the greatest MC of all time. And its no doubt about that.Lil Wayne WHO? iF I hear another disrespectful comparising to HOV the Great I'll spack every person who said it. He is the best ever and since a 10 is the only thing we can give him i will give him that. He really deserves a 10000000000000000."Its like the disciples/dissing jesus becoming his rivals/ shunning the one thing that they owe they life too/you let that man hype you to go against yo idle/knowing good god damn well dis what i do. Think im in my office, and off my grind/thats how kids become orphans, you lost your mind. I keep my enemies close/i give 'em enough rope/to put themselves in the air/i just kick away the chair." good, but boring. the whole "maturity" thing got really annoying toward the end of the album. sure rappers like g-unit talk about the same things over and over, but its more entertaining than listening to Hov talk about how hes more mature than everyone else. he may be more lyrically inclined, but when he doesnt have anything entertaining to talk about, its not worth listening to, IMO. the prelude is my favorite song on the album and about the only one i listen to. Some other songs are okay, but this album is nothing compared to his earlier ones. |

This album is definitely different. While everyone else is embracing da era of young, flii, n flashy hov went against da ropes. And its understandable. But 2 say what he's doing is boring is a total contradiction because were the reason he came back in the first place. And all of us knew what state Jay was in. He's a hip hop President wearing flip flops in St. Tropez. So why would we expect anything different from an album. Jay Z is the realest rapper out there cuz he doesn't lie. He doesn't lie for record sales. When he talked about crack its cuz he sold it. Unlike rappers nowadays who neva touched a key in deyre life. But the onlii reason he's gettin a 8 is cuz of the production. I feel dat he cudda had a few more uptempo beats. If 30 is da new 20 y not give us somethng 2 rock 2. But all in all I'm not disappointed. He's almost 40 so he's bringin light 2 new experiences. Honestly its betta den being like a Fat Joe, who also is nearly 40, still talkin bout let it rain like he's part of weezy, dipset, jeezy, n ti era. |
