His near-namesake is revered as one of the most innovative figures in rock history, but there's precious little original about 21 year old Cornish singer-songwriter James Morrison, the latest bright young hopeful earmarked for fame by the record industry.

Morrison's debut album is a missed opportunity.

Morrison's success is, I imagine, assured, even though this debut album is freighted with such ballast of cliché it threatens to sink under its own lack of imagination, with insights as deathless as "When we're alone we are all the same" and "Things are not always what they seem" as it tacks tediously from reproachful rejection to overwrought devotion, and back again.

Still, your teenage daughter or sister will think Morrison is “gorgeous” and your mother will say he’s “lovely.” God, Dylan’s new album can’t come soon enough.

Brilliant....great range of vocal...really stretches his voice out. Songs are also really good, i beg to differ with critics saying that it is not imaginative...it is very different and unique. |

As everybody's spotted, James Morrison's 21, it's his FIRST album and he is undisputably gifted!!! Having said that, reknown music critics are a bit harsh on this new release missing the fact that this young man's just entered the industry and can't possibly have the influence or the experience of a Madonna, Maxwell or a Lauryn Hill to bring a personal input to an album or a single. At least NOT YET. This first album is, according to me, a real succes. This "rag to riches-type" young man comes out of an apparently troubled life...and not saying that like somebody feeling sorry and sympathetic about his story...we have to bear in mind that he has nothing of an X-Factor candidate! This man has true potential and has started his way down the path of EXPERIENCE. It takes time to express very intimately and the way one wants when you debute and are surrounded by"experts and professionals"!Look at Christina Aguilera...this is only now that we have a glimpse of a real personal and quality like album. How long has she been in the industry? Critics should give James Morrison a chance instead of claiming him a hit-and-miss! We have here a true potential artists and this first album is for me a success. Lovin'it! As for me |

I love this album, it gives me peace when I listen to it. His voice is extraordinary. I hope we hear more of him in the near future! Iīve rated it a 9, because I didnīt like all of his texts, some the texts werenīt pulling me in. |

reading the top reviews had just strengthened my view that most music/film critics are just locked up in a style of music that was alive while they were young and will never acknowledge anything else as even passable...
when the guy form the independent speaks about the lyrics being cliche -> show me the lyrics in the last 5 years or so (exception of hip-hop where literally a grunt can be considered a lyric) that hasn't at least in part lyrics that haven't been seen anywhere before...
when has it came to be that good looks (by the way im male and not gay so just trying to be realistic) are a sign of a lacking musical prowess ??? Do all artists have to have a Dylan-like profile?
Comparisons to James Blunt are equally stupid to me - the songs are of a different style and the singing as well (especially the singing that doesn't get annoying after listening the song only twice)...
it's been a while since i've even wanted to listen to a whole album of any artist cause much of it is crap or contains at most two or three good song per album but this has been a great surprise so two thumbs up, hope he has a long and fruitfull career and much more albums (we can only hope)... |

How harsh are the critics?!?!? I first heard and saw James Morrison when watching the UK Hall of Fame show, and he sang Rod Stewart's "First Cut is the Deepest", and I couldn't believe my ears! His voice is so smooth (and sexy!)and those 3 minutes or so made me decide I had to have his album, and I wasn't disappointed when I got it. I don't think he's particularly "gorgeous" as some critics say will capture more audience, I think he looks like a regular guy, but don't think this album is regular. Its an easy listen, and although a couple of the songs drift off a bit, the rest are really very good. Its outrageous that people would compare him to his namesake - different genre for a start! You go James Morrison!!!! |

The tracks left me quite cold on the first listening. His feeble n kitten-like voice irritated me. Patiently, I listened a few tracks again n again n I don't regret it. At the 6th listening I hadfamiliarised myself with his universe n I came 2 love the first half of the CD, particularly 'The pieces don't fit anymore'. Now I appreciate all ze CD. Whoever wrote ze lyrics has ze capacity of telling a story. The lyrics of 'U give me something' r very touching. This artist is worth listening if u have patience. |

His vocals are excellent, it's very attractive and unique; it is quite relaxing to hear too. The lyrics are just like what the critics said, a cliche somehow and I really think there's need to be an improvement in some of the melodies. It needs to be more catchy, more deluring, just more. But all in all James Morrison is a great singer, just more. You get what I mean? I mean James is good but he can be the best. |

His words are mesmerizing and quite inspirational, and his voice is gripping. The critics need to widen their horizons and take a look at James Morrison's work again, because it's compelling. His songs touch the heart of those who can relate to the message as well as those who can not. I hope to hear more of him soon. |

The critics shown on this site are HORRIBLE! But, in case you want to read better critics, go to James' official website: www.jamesmorrisonmusic.com...the critics there are SOOO much better! Anyway, his album and lyrics rock, and he is surely destined for a real great career. my favourite songs are pieces, wonderful world, you give me something, undiscovered, the letter, call the police, this boy and under the influence |

James Morrison has a very scruffy and soulful voice which gives the listener the chills and makes really feel the music. I think that that James is the type of artist that makes real music and sings about situations that actuallt touches people. The album is wonderful and I wish him all the success that he deserves. |

he is a brilliant musician! I wish there were more celebs out there who are like him, in a way that, he was offered to be an actor in a big movie and turned it down bc he doesn't want to be like other celebrities, he just wants music. His lyrics are wonderful and they are from his heart. He wrote these songs and they all have a meaning for them, one is for his mom, one is for a friend, and the list goes on and on! I rated him a 10 because i have the upmost respect for him and he is extremely talented. His voice is soothing |

i just listened to his "you give me something" and i have to listen to it over and over again. he just has a SMOOTH, SWEET voice that i must hear over and over again. he sounds ALOT better than james blunt. james blunt sounds like a wounded elk. i saw james morrison on the TODAY show. and he was wonderful. he was on a local radio station in spokane and he was wonderful. he sang more tracks from his c.d. they were just as good as "you give me something!" Finally, wonderful new talent! |

I like the james morrison songs. At the first time a had a go, it woz just like joke, bot, really the singer we want to appear more in this world. James, critics are very welcome for anyone who does something is appretiate all over the world. We need to learn from corrections from mistakes we have done. But sometimes, we don't give a damn! One thing is that, you are not obliged to do things. People are easy going on critising, but I know how difficult it is standing among thousands of people singing, ya. What really I wish is corage a deternination. You will soon be singingh as like maddona, byonce, etc. Make sure you are very brand new man and with a lot of powerful blood runing in your vains. You are excellent and I believe in all your effeort and tallent. I like your job very much indeeeeedddddd. Get a big hug from myself. Vaduchaooooo |

I cannot believe what these critics have said. Undiscovered is one of the best albums i have ever heard. James Morrison has the greatest voice i have ever heard.Every song on the album is excellent, its very difficult to choose a favourite. He is extremely talented and im surprised his songs are not doing better in the charts. His music has ll the qualities good music should have. Power, emotion, an amzing voice and it grows on you. Some people i Know say his music is boring but they clearly have not listened properly. THe music is very soulful and emotional, and every song has meaning. James Morrison is very talented and deserves alot more recognition than he is getting at the minute. Mazin. |
