It’s odd being a Jeremy Enigk fan, simply because you can never be sure when he might reappear next. Hopefully World Waits will garner enough critical and fan reception to keep Enigk in collective acclaim, so that his next move won’t arrive as a surprise. But even if he must face another inglorious fade out, as long as he returns with an album as graceful as World Waits, his forever steadfast legion of fans will have nothing to fear.

While the album’s steady pace makes for few edge-of-the-seat thrills, World Waits is a success of consistency and coherency – its piano-led ballads segue seamlessly into acoustic guitar lamentations, which in turn twist themselves into flourish-dotted indie-pop delights.

Listening to World Waits, you get the feeling that it would be a more enjoyable record if Enigk didn't execute every single note with such immense, ridiculous fervor. Each song feels carefully calculated and deliberately squeezed from every pore on each musician's body.
