As if to silence any in metaldom who were not already aware of their self claimed rulership of the metalcore scene, the much anticipated fourth release from Killswitch Engage is filled with music so close to their signature ‘sound’ you’ll swear you’ve heard some of it before.   Full text...

LeedsMusicScene Rating: 10.0

The album itself is a riveting masterclass in high-speed riffing, flawless songwriting, and a profound sense of rhythm that the current glut of metalcore challengers seem incapable of grasping.   Full text...

Drowned in sound Rating: 9.0

With As Daylight Dies, Killswitch Engage have cemented their position as the reason for metalcore ever existing.  Full text...

Sputnikmusic.com Rating: 7.0

Although not a massive amount of progress is made, Killswitch Engage retains their great style while still writing great songs and proves they are still the kings of metalcore.  Full text...

Popmatters Rating: 7.0

In a world now crowded with similar bands if you know where to look, Killswitch Engage have the brimming sincerity, the well-placed balance, the tolerable lyrics (only just), the alternating chunks of melody and energy, and the know-how in the instrumental department to come out head and shoulders clear—and, best of all, they… still… sound like no-one else.  Full text...

It’s basically a recreation of The End of Heartache with some minor changes, yet not as strong. Additionally, it lacks any true standouts like the ones that graced Heartache.  Full text...

was a massive killswitch fan for ages..but what a dissapontment when i heard this....killswitch have lost all that great big UMPH that gave them their sound...they have went the same path as alot of bands who get more popular(weak churned out piss)...the songs have no power behind them...went downhill since "alive or just breathing." sure they even sound like all the other gay ass bands out there now like bullet for my valentine and all that rubbish!!! this is a mainstream MTV albulm...its not kool...and if u dont agree i bet u listen to the bands like "Bullet for my valentine" "him"...and "my chemical romance"...basically pop metal...

As Daylight Dies
Killswitch Engage

At this point we pretty much know what to expect from a new Killswitch album, and “As Daylight Dies” is no exception. Upbeat, energized and aggressive, Killswitch continue to deliver meaty, hook-laced metal for the millennial masses. That being said, that very same consistency could quickly become a curse rather than a blessing.
“As Daylight Dies” is a slightly more focused album than “The End of Heartache,” and has a more balanced feel throughout thanks to more carefully arranged dynamics. The pace and textures of the songs are varied enough to keep the record from ever wearing out, but at the same time it seems to lack some of that intangible element that makes good the songs great and the memorable albums classics. “As Daylight Dies” has plenty of big hits, but no real head-smashing knockouts.
That’s not to say there’s nothing good here; indeed, there are a number of smoking new tracks on display. Album highlights such as ‘The Arms of Sorrow,’ ‘My Curse’ and ‘Break the Silence’ all demonstrate that Killswitch have lost nothing of their melody, riffiness or ability to write inspiring and uplifting emotional crescendos within a modern metal context.
The riffs all sound more-or-less familiar but feel a bit different. Emphasis continues the example laid out by “The End of Heartache” on faster guitar work with suitably deft frills and fills, but this leaves one wondering where all the impact of the more moderately paced chug riffs of “Alive or just Breathing” has gone. Even with a moshcore breakdown in nearly every song, these tunes simply don’t hit quite as hard as past material. Vocals and drumming remain impressive, but deliver nothing new and lack much of the tenacity and vigor that got these guys where they are today.
Even though the album has a slightly different feel, you won’t mistake it for anything other than a Killswitch record. “As Daylight Dies” will tide over rabid fans looking for new Killswitch songs, but won’t blow away casual listeners.
Bottom line, it’s a step in the right direction for a band that’s great at what they do but are beginning to run the risk of burying themselves beneath a wealth of similar sounding material. The next step is to come back and deliver an amazing record which will surprise and shake up the existing fan base. “As Daylight Dies” is a solid rocker that sees Killswitch remaining near the top of the modern metal pile – but in a genre that thrives on passion and renewal don’t expect them to stay there for long if the next album doesn’t drop jaws and kick balls.

I think that "Antard" needs to call his trans-gendered father and tell him he loves him and he's no longer upset with him for burning him with his curling iron every friday night while he got ready to go out to the gaybar to find antard a second daddy...
your very angry antard....feel the love
let me give you a big hug,(not like the ones daddy gave you though) "X" there, feel better now? I do

I think the new album kicks all form of ass, and just as long as KSE doesnt make an album with an orchestra....I'll forever be a fan

solid album, "my curse" is definately a big standout single from the album, the whole thing gets 2 thumbs up.

who cares what kind of music people listen to, whether its metal, rock, pop, or rap. it means nothing about what type of person they are and if a certain bands sound isnt what you like, listen to something else. all bands change and evolve. you may like what they did with their first album and hate their latest album. thats life, get over it.im sick of reading these comments and seeing people insult or degrade another persons musical taste. its diversity. its what makes life. get off your high horse of thinking youre some kind of music critic.

Tawnee Rating: 10.0

I agree with Eric. People need to stop criticizing good bands. If you do not like the type of music, dont listen to it. It's just that simple. In my opinion, I think that this album kicks ass 100%. It's great and I love it. I could listen to it over and over again.

Mikey Rating: 9.0

i usually am not interested in this music...but man did my ears bounce to the killer guitar and screams of killswitch! love it, and even if you arent a fan of this type of music, give it a chance, and maybe ull be as suprised as i was

Kane Rating: 6.0

The End of Heartache was a metalcore masterpiece and this is a step backwards. I was really dissappointed with this album.

Azrael Rating: 4.0

I agree with antard that alive or just breathing was their best album. wen jesse leach left, so did the power of the music. alive or just breathing was probably the peak of their career and albums afterwards would probably sound like the end of heartache and as daylight dies.

Akira Rating: 8.0

Killswitch's ability to write melodic and thrash songs is what drew me to them, and on this album they took advantage of this split and delivered a solid album of personal and totally rocking tracks.

Kevin Z Rating: 10.0

The 1st song i ever listened to by Killswitch was on The end of heartache and was the song the end of heartache, and I was blown away. So I tracked to down more songs and tried a bunch off of A.D.D. My faves off of that album are Eye of the Storm, Break the Silence, Reject Yourself, and the Arms of Sorrow. Kickass CD here guys, keep up the good work!

Great Record! All their records are great. I have been playing the guitar for the last 6 years and practiced at least an hour a day. Guitar playing is like bible study, and you know what? Ive learned and tabbed out as many songs as i can by KSE and I love the dynamics of their band. These dudes rock, As i still watch them on DvD's and watched them in Ozfest, they are one of the best bands of all time. Honestly i take in great pride when i play at shows, and cover some of KSE songs with my band!!! Love this band!

Noname Rating: 9.0

Killswitch I would say is the best metal band out there. Better than Slipknot, way better. I loved the album and can't wait for their next one!
