Equally comfy spitting sassy rhymes over thick beats and purring like Prince on funk’n’roll songs, Kelis has something for everyone. Come and get it!  Full text...

An album that could just as easily bear the name of any other pop singer working the charts today.  Full text...

Kelis Was Here could have been subtitled ...But the Neptunes Weren't. This fourth CD from the R&B/hip-hop chanteuse is, in fact, the first not to feature the production skills of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, the pair responsible for crafting Kelis' dairy-industry-pleasing 2003 hit ''Milkshake.''  Full text...

HipHopDX Rating: 6.0

Perhaps the track listing could have been worked on a bit more, a few songs changed about and the production not so elaborate as Kelis adds her own twist to anything she jumps on regardless of the beat. But not a bad effort at all.  Full text...

Slant Magazine Rating: 5.0

Kelis Was Here sounds like a talented, left-field hip-hop diva in a holding pattern, concerned about her legacy but uncertain as to how to go about cementing it.   Full text...

On album she can sing (the incredible "Suspended" from Kaleidoscope) but often doesn't. She clips everything to half-sustain and needles her vocal thread through the holes left in the musical patchwork with a sultry detachment that could be compared to Nico if it weren't that it's from such a different origin and, well, doesn't sound anything like Nico.  Full text...

StylusMagazine Rating: 4.2

It's tempting to view Kelis as someone caught in the trap of her own eccentricities.  Full text...

I don't have the album, but I love the songs. Bossy is good, but it's played out. Blind Fold Me never made it on the countdown. Im also Black/Chinese-Puerto Rican, and love seeing another mixed mami doing her thang!

OK, it has been a really long time scince anybody said something in this thread so here i go......OK, kelis, THE kelis...she's pretty hot and a GREAT cook, a really edgy person and is really unique and different from all the other artists in a good way...i think that the best genre from Kelis's songs is Hip-Hop and rap, R&B doesnt really suit...and i think thats because of her scrachy voice, no offence but Kelis's voice is really scrachy and sometimes sound like she's choking, but once u get to hear alot of her music, you get used to it and then start to love it...same thing happened to me...i think the best albums Kelis ever did were Wanderland and the popular Kelis Was Here...she's such a good song writer...but "Like You"'s lyrics were SO lame!! no offence to Kelis
