From the first shriek of "Hey!", the debut from Danish newcomers The Kissaway Trail demands attention. There are obvious nods to the Beach Boys, the Flaming Lips and the euphoria of Arcade Fire, but the influences are filtered through the band's fresh, fighting spirit.

The good thing about these Danish magpies is that while their anthemic pulse clearly doffs its cap to the Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire and Bloc Party, the result has a pop savvy and light touch that creates a memorable hybrid.

The Kissaway Trail is something of a frustrating listen, then – it’s a very good debut, a very good debut, but one that’s lacking in the bombast department; it’s a rather flat representation of a band that, live, can truly steal the breath away from all attendees before them. As a foundation for an absolutely stunning sophomore, though, this is good enough for sure.
