The well-crafted set of 13 new tunes, highlighted by a series of upbeat, instantly contagious rockers — "Faster Car," "Once in a Lifetime," "Raise the Barn" (with Ronnie Dunn on a salute to Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts) and "I Told You So" — will deservedly find fans from country and beyond.

What you will hear is an album that’s part syrupy adult contemporary, part rootless flyover rock, and part airtight pop.

Brass-flecked tracks like "Shine" and "Faster Car" show he's best when he skips the singalong arena choruses; leaner productions like "Stupid Boy" show he's accomplished in ballads, unafraid to scuff up his smoothness.

As usual, the 39-year-old Urban shows he's more than just some pretty-boy country-pop puppet -- he's got an endless supply of hooks, he can hold his own on guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, piano and umpteen other instruments (including something called a ganjo), he's got a hickory-tinged voice in a class with Rodney Crowell, and he's not afraid to turbocharge his country melodies with some seriously rocking guitar solos.

As a country album, a pop album, or something in between, Love, Pain, & The Whole Thing is simply bad.

One of the best all around albums I purchased all year. No matter what mood you are in, there is a song for you on this album, country fan or not. |

I'm not a KU fan, but this CD is awesome. Check track #'s 5 and 6. The piano in #5 is soul wrenching, while the thumping bass and rock-a-billy groove of #6 are fun and addictive. |

Keith Urban is by far the best male country singer out there. His voice is so tantalizing, I could listen to his cd's over and over again! I dont think there is one of his songs that I dont like. The lyrics inspire me to be a better person everyday. Keep up the amazing work Keith! |

I came across Keith Urban by accident. I'm typically not a fan of the genre but watching him perform on Saturday Night Live fresh from his stint in rehab, I was very impressed. Clever lyrics (Shine, Once in a lifetime etc...) especially my personal favorite Stupid Boy which sadly describes me to a "T" . Keith is now a new favorite right up ther with Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Fergie (that's right, Fergie), My Chemical Romance etc... |
