The album doesn't lend Flowers the gravitas he apparently yearns for, but it does prove that few are better at irrepressible pop hooks and fist-pumping choruses.  Full text...

In some ways, Sam’s Town falls in to the same trappings as Hot Fuss did: sometimes it just sounds far too planned and calculated for a rock n’ roll album, exhibiting little of spontaneity of some of the acts they pay tribute to. On the other hand, the songwriting is far more consistent than its predecessor.  Full text...

E!Online Rating: 7.3

For the follow-up to the fluky hit debut, Hot Fuss, the Killers decided to completely ditch the sound that made them famous (dramatic new wave in the manner of Duran Duran and Echo & the Bunnymen) to embrace another secondhand sound, one identified with Bruce Springsteen's anthemic Born in the USA period.  Full text...

The subject matter is largely familiar rock staples like sex ("Bones", "When You Were Young"), drugs ("Uncle Jonny"), and the urge to escape provincial restrictions ("Read My Mind", "Bling", "Sam's Town"); but it's incumbent on all retro-rock to add a fresh wrinkle to the old forms, which The Killers fail to do here.  Full text...

Along with Razorlight, The Killers' bid for greatness involves aping their stadium-straddling forbears rather than exploring new paths. Instead of the era-defining classic the band claim, Sam's Town works best as a ludicrous pop album.  Full text...

Like the lure of a master carnival barker, the Killers suck us in with a phenomenal lead single, but soon after we give in and pay the ten bucks, we see Sam’s Town for what it really is: a tantalizing façade, a few mild thrills, and in the end, the unmistakable, hollow feeling that we’ve been cheated.  Full text...

Don't attract fans with music inspired by Smiths, Cure, Depeche Mode, Oasis on your first album and then change sound completely to emulate "old fart rock". . . Bruce Springstien etc.

leah Rating: 8.0

The killers is a great band ,they know what their doing ,keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!

LemonLyme Rating: 7.0

I enjoy most of this album, though I am disappointed they all grew beards, and grew full of themselves. The magic of Hot Fuss was because they didn't take themselves seriously, however, that has changed.

I've heard so much praise for Uncle Jonny, but I can't force myself to like it. Rhyming refrain, cocain, and "right there in his brain" makes me crinch every time.

Kim Rating: 8.0

I know nothing about Hot Fuss. I know nothing about Brandon Flowers. I just know I love this album, bar two songs.

Brendan Ricard Rating: 10.0

the killers are the best band i ever listend to. their second album is the best ever!!!!!!!

JoRdi GiRo Rating: 8.0

Very good album. I prefer listen to the killers than britney or simply red. I think is better than the first one but time will say... enjoy it!! ...for reasons unknown...

Unknown Rating: 10.0

This Album Rocks!

Shawna Rating: 9.0

Hot Fuss was without a doubt a huge success and alot to live up to. The first time listening to Sam's town and I wasn't sure what I thought, however now am loving most of the album and still believe these guys have a very long future in music. Thanks for the tunes!

Cat Gittins Rating: 10.0

What a brilliant come back! Loved them from the start!

Abby Rating: 10.0

I love this CD it's amazing and has a great up-beat sound to it! I like how it is totally different from hot fuss. I like the fact that they're able to have 2 different sounds to their CD's. It kinda reminds me off a musical and some of the songs remind me of other bands!

Massey Rating: 10.0

the killers are different new, argueably the best band around..their album was not dissappointing

david Rating: 0.0

im sorry, this is the worst cd i have ever heard.. i loved Hot Fuss but seriously, i cannot get through one song on this cd

Chris Rating: 10.0

In one word: Fantastic! Best Album in a long time. Every track fits the bill.

Kate Rating: 7.0

It's no Hot Fuss, but it ain't a sound of it's own either. The probably with this CD is that so many songs after 'Bling' just seem to sound the same. They carry on, like one incredibly long song, and make all three parts of Brick In The Wall played together with all three parts of Evie sound short. No Hot Fuss, but still good.

ruby Rating: 8.0

i do really like this album but i dont think it is as amazing as hot fuss.they sed it wud be different but its not really. but dont get me wrong its still definatley worth buying.

l'Intarissable Rating: 2.0

Sounds like an annoying thing

Dave Rating: 3.0

This album is below average at best. I knew they wouldn't make 'Hot Fuss 2', but figured they'd at least put out an album with some solid songs and a different style. There's only one or two good songs on here. Some are actually unlistenable.

Mike Rating: 7.0

This album was good in some songs... almost as good as some of the Hot Fuss stuff, like when you were young and sam's town ... but overall, hot fuss was much better.

Kiwi Rating: 1.0

Nothing compared to Hot Fuss. Very disappointing!

KillerFan90 Rating: 9.0

This album is great!!!! Still there are some things that could be better. I still recommend it.

Alexx Kessler Rating: 10.0

I really love this album. More than "Hot Fuss"? Probably. All the songs are great, though, obviously, some are better than others.

"Sam's Town" has a bit of a different kind of rock to it, but you can still tell it's them. "Hot Fuss" kind of reminds me of British rock, as "Sam's Town" doesn't quite have that same tone to it. And, as much as I loved the first album, this one places itself above that one. You can listen to the songs over and over, because they are easy to relate to.

Olleizzopac Rating: 9.0

You need to get a taste for the less mainstream 'Killers' songs, but they are arguably an excellent alternatve band with passionate lyrics.

MyTown Rating: 8.0

when i first heard the album i was a little surprised because it didn't seem to have the same type of feel as hot fuss. however after letting it grow on me i've come to love it. although, it's not as good as hot fuss, but nothing will probably ever be, it is definitely worth the money. overall a very sold sophomore album

2110 Rating: 8.0

Although it takes some time to grow on you, this album is definitely amazing and well worth the money spent(or time spent downloading). Not as good as Hot Fuss in my opinion but still very enjoyable.

kash Rating: 10.0

come on. give them a break. every band comes back with a new sound or change. the killers are the best without a doubt.

sammie Rating: 8.0

i love this album minus some of the duller tracks. its darker mystery is very different to the brilliance of hot fuss but still fabulous!

can u read my mind? Rating: 9.0

I bought the album the first day it came out and wen i herd i waz like wtf its taken a while 2 grow on me bt now i think it iz great!!!! 1 thing i dnt like iz where the white boys dance that iz gay

thats a secret Rating: 10.0

holy crap!! its sooo freaking good. ive loved the killers scence hot fuss and i love them even more now

Lisa Rating: 10.0

I have to admit at first i didn't really like this album very much. But after really listening to it and getting to familiarize with the new sound i grew to like it more than the first album Hot Fuss.

varun Rating: 10.0

It's obviously so different to hot fuss but that's what make the killers such a great band. Their change of sound may take some a while to adjust to but there's no denying them. They are simply the best band we have seen since oasis and an even brighter future awaits them.

McMendez Rating: 10.0

It's the album, I was waiting maybe 15 years, because all I can hear since Violator (1990) is chickenshit (with few little exceptions), and as usual music critics are dickheads, maybe because mostly they were very unsuccessful in their own musical career :)

Kari Rating: 10.0

This cd is brillant, I can't stop listening to it! No, it isn't anything like Hot Fuss, but why would you want a repeat? It's FANTASTIC! Listen to it world! :D

Victims unit!

Andy Rating: 10.0

The Killers sound is so diff. from anything that is out there right now. They are trying new things and taking risks and I love that about them. They are not trying to be Springsteen or U2 they were simply inspired by them. They stand in a class all their own. If you don't like them fine, but don't disrespect all their hard work only because you don't like their sound or lyrics. Everyone has their place in this world and every job has it's honor, they are meant to be "On Top"

Eliya Rating: 10.0

I loved Hot Fuss but Sam's Town really demonstrates how talented the Killers are. Every instrument really comes through and I've come to appreciate the awesome musicianship of the band. The sound is different and you can hear the classic American rock influence. But you can also hear influences like U2 as well.

It's innovative yet familiar, which is absolutely the Killers style. I'd recommend this to anyone who listens to rock or classic rock.

sqaksums Rating: 10.0

these guys are musical wizards. I like different genres in albums. from a music theory and performance standpoint, both are rock-solid and imaginative, which is rare anymore. Bring it on, boys. screw the rest.

Craig Rating: 10.0

What an album... How to take make the ultimate album by the killers... and i thought hot fuss was good.!!!

Kaitlin Rating: 10.0

Wow...incredible album...i can't stop listening to it! I really wish Brandon Flowers would shave his 'stach though...haha. Hot Fuss was great but this is their best album yet...can't wait to see what else they'll do!

Jakki Rating: 8.0

I bought this album expecting a lot since listening to Hot Fuss. Well, I found that I had to listen to their new CD a few times before I actually got into it, and now I aam IN LOVE with it! Apart from When you were young, I also love Bling, Why do I keep counting Uncle Johnny. If you want something different, listen to this album - It's GREAT!
P.S. I think Flowers looks great with a moustache;)

MRS. FLOWERS Rating: 10.0

This album is the best! Equal or better than Hot Fuss. With its addictive melodies and unbelieveable lyrics, "Sam's Town" will keep you singing along and begging for more! As usual, Brandon Flowers never dissapoints! A great CD for anyone into alternative rock meets a little hardcore rock! An awesome album and a must buy!!

P.S. Brandon Flowers is the most AdOrAbLe man in the world. With the moustache or without, he is mine!! So hands off!! jk! Happy listening!

Tyler Rating: 10.0

This is my favorite CD of all time! All the songs you will get stuck in your head at one time or another. Though somepeople don't like it because it sounds completely different then Hot Fuss, I love their new sound even more. Now all i ever listen to is Sam's Town.Bones and Bling are tied for best song. Go and BUY NOW!

Jimmy Rating: 10.0

I can't believe all of those magazines and papers slated this album its a f***in amazing album!!! I think Read My Mind is the best song on there! :D can't wait for their next album!
*sings* The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun, When you read my mind!!! ;)

mrs. mrightside Rating: 10.0

the album rocked,i dont know what some of thses stupid ignborant people are talking about, its genius, for us,the TRUE killers fans,we love it,and that's all that matters. we love it,and we can't wait for the third :) and just you watch how people are gonna jump on the killers band wagon when they hear the third album and how great it is.

trisha Rating: 10.0

as im not a killers fan at all i was v surprised when i heard this album at work and loved it. its a fantastic album and im not even into this kind of music. well impressed!

cmorekillersfan Rating: 10.0

I liked Sam's Town voices, Brandon Flowers is great on this cd and live. The lyrics are amazing and thats why i give this album a Ten.

spencer Rating: 6.0

I loved Hot Fuss. I can play almost every song on that album perfectly. ANd i couldn't wait fo rthis album. But then when i heard it, it was just okay. I thought, *Let me listen to it a few more times.* But it just ain't happening. I can't wait for the third album. Maybe it will actually be good.
Now sure, the syntheses are good. teh singings good. The songs aren't bad. But it' sso different from their debut album. From teh day i bought this i can count on one hand the number of times i have listened to this album.
literally.
I have still listened to their first album more.
I just hope that their third album will be at least better than this, and that maybe next time they won't be so full of themselves.

Henry Rating: 9.0

like many of the other listners i did not like Sam's town at first however, after giving it a better go i can not get enough of it. It is good that the album is differnt to Hot Fuss, it shows that the band will not produce album after album of the same stuff. The Killers are a great band and i can not wait for the third!

Postuleo Rating: 10.0

The Killers is one of the best bands ever. Hot Fuss & Sam's Town is amazing. Thier next album is going tobe better for sure.

P.s Brandon's A sexy mother. haha! YES.

juan jacobo medina Rating: 9.0

i really think that this band is one of the best ive ever listened, hot fuss is a 10 but this one is a 9, the songs are excellent but i dont think is the same voice i used to listen before. im number one fan here in colombia.i love this guys.

TONY Rating: 10.0

Its a good thing critics mistreat Sam's Town, most of the greatest are missunderstood at the beginning: U2, Queen, The Beatles, and on. The Killers had it rough because Hot Fuss was such a great album, but Sam's Town is even better in a different level. The Killers is going to be huge, it is already.

Sylvia Rating: 10.0

The Killers "Sam's Town" is reinventing Rock and Roll. i love every single song on it i think this beats out "hot fuss" a million times to one "hot Fuss" was nothing compared to this succsess..The Killers is going to be the biggest band in the world i know it..They Are the number one band but they can never beat out beatles, pink floyd, guns n roses and nirvana But no doubt theyll be as big as those bands because there not weird emo punk rock like alot of bands are today

isabel Rating: 9.0

there are so many good tracks on this cd!!...and i would even say it's better than hot fuss....although there are one or two songs that shouldn't have been on the album , they can be quite catchy...rock one killers!!!!

richie Rating: 9.0

didn't think it was as good as hotfuss, at fisrt, but changed my mind after a few listens. it's a grower, & a fantastic 2nd album.

jeff Rating: 10.0

i didnt think i like the new bands out there these day but when i heard the killers for the first time on tv i said to myself now thats a good band so i went out and boult sams town and cant wait for there third album to come out

Me (A Killers Victim) Rating: 10.0

Frome the first moment I heard their Hot Fuss and saw them in concert, dang they immediately captured my eart and the love I have for musicians like themselves, they're awesome and I can not wait to see them in the Bay Area!!! Cali loves you babes, keep doing what you do, I love both of the albums and I need your music to take my pain away, it relieves my pain....(peace)

#1 Killerz Fan Rating: 10.0

The Killers have shown the music world what it is all about, this album including their last rocked a$$e$ around the globe, they are going to be The Beatles of our era, you wait and see!!! I love you guys (Killers) for what you've done and what you've given the music industry, finally is all I can say, and of course.....thank you. (wink)

P.s.s....They are ALL Freakin' HOTTTT!!! Mark, Dave, Ronnie and yes, you Brandon...Yummy

Rickster Rating: 2.0

Reading some of the reviews, I'm flabbergasted that so may people can be so very, very wrong. This seems to me just a poor parody of U2, with only a couple of songs living up the promise of the first single. I think they need to lay off the coke and start writing some killer tunes....if you'll excuse the pun. 'The Beatles for our era'?? are you tkaing the piss....have you not of that little band Oasis who've already cornered that one...from England.

Dr_eamer9 Rating: 9.0

I agree with that Oasis assessment, however I do think the Killers have a distinct sound of their own. They do not sound like U2 to me, though I can clearly see how they were influenced by them. It took a while to get used to, but after hearing the album five times or so I decided that I liked it better than Hot Fuss. It sounds darker than the first, but with better lyrics as well. After initially hearing it, I was annoyed by how catchy and pop-ish it sounded, but the melodies and beats stuck in my head. Why Do I Keep Counting and Read My Mind will stay with you, but not in an overly obnoxious way. Finally, while they are an overly cocky band, they do produce quality music, and that's all that is important to me.

K Rating: 8.0

I must say I enjoy Hot Fuss more than Sam's Town. I still think they did a great job, and some of the new songs (When You Were Young, Read My Mind) are definately faves of mine, but when you debut with an album that has Mr. Brightside, All These Things..., Somebody Told Me, etc., its gonna be hard to beat.

clay Rating: 8.0

one of the best album of 2006, good sound, good lyrics and they don't try yo make another hot fuss...that's a very smart thing

elisa Rating: 4.0

okay well i am a huge killers fan.
im seeing them live in april but this cd
is such a dissappointment.
i practically LIVE off hot fuss and
when this came out i was so excited to get it
and now im like oh. wow. this blows.
their old style was so unique & awesome,
its why i loved them so much.
this new stuff.. is crap.
bleh.

Magic Rating: 10.0

It was so hard to get through this album the first time I heard it! Perhaps that's the magic of it that now I can't spend a day without listenng to it at least once?? Brandon with his voice, so sad, you know; I'm shivering!

Jessica Rating: 10.0

I've never owned a CD that every single song is AMAZING!!!! Trust me on this! It is the best album ever in history, and I am officially an addicted Fan of their music!!!

Uncle Jonny Rating: 10.0

yes, when everbody else refrained I did cocaine.:-P but in all seriousness, this is an amazing album. one of the few i sing to in the mirror. word of advice to mr. leadsinger there, take down the premodonna meter a lil bit, and u got this fan hooked for life.

Faye Rating: 7.0

Hot Fuss was in my cd player and on my mp3 for months. I realise that something as profound as Hot Fuss would be hard to beat, but Sam's Town does not quite come up to scratch. Thats not to say that I didn't enjoy the album. The songs, When you were young, Read my mind, and Why do I keep on counting are pretty damn good, yet the rest are not quite catchy enough for my liking.

iToons Rating: 9.0

Amazing album, much different than Hot Fuss but not in a bad way. The Killers fail to dissapoint. 9/10.

Anon Killers Fan Rating: 10.0

When I first finished listening to the song "Sam's Town", the first thought which crossed my mind was "Wow." And it carried through for the whole album. My personal favorites are "When You Were Young", "Read My Mind", and "Bones", and even my dad agrees with me here when I say that Sam's Town definitely goes beyond what Hot Fuss scratched the surface of, and shows what depth The Killers are capable of, as opposed to these silly emo-punk bands nowadays.

It's a breathtaking, amazingly realistic album that's definitely worth listening to a time or fifteen.

Genny -Fresno, CA Rating: 10.0

This CD is AMAZING! I never cared for the Killers before, because of 'Somebody Told Me' I can't stand that song! So I never bought Hot Fuss.I still can't believe they sing that song. I bought Sam's Town when 'When You WereYoung' came out. The video was touching. I love this CD! My faves are 'Reason Unknown' and "Read My Mind'. I read everyone's comment on how Hot Fuss is so different, I'm afraid to buy it. Since I love The Smiths and The Cure I can see why I love this CD. For some reason I hear Frank Black/Pixies in Sam's Town. I haven't heard a great Cd like this one since The Strokes. I love Sam's Town and I think Brandon Flowers is HOT! I recommend this CD. 10!!!

Connor Rating: 9.0

i think the killers is a remarkable modern band with a completly unique style of music.. the western style of a couple song in sams town...the techno in hot fuss..and the songs that are not on their albums are simply great... the music they write is relly nice to listen to

anon Rating: 2.0

I gave this a 2 just for the reason that not all the songs on the album were complete shit!
The good songs, these only being the songs which were a rememberance of tracks such as Mr. Brightside.
The only tracks on this album of this calibre are When you were young and Reasons Unknown. Other than this there are several just above average songs such as Bones, Read my mind. The rest of the songs being complete and utter shit that they actually have to be skipped, listening becoming unbearable.

Heather Rating: 9.0

I wasn't sure about this album the first time I listened to it, but it's grown on me immensely, and now it's one of my favorites in a very long time. I don't like "Uncle Jonny" (hence the 9 rating instead of a 10), but I love the way many of the songs have an almost rock-opera sound to them. Exceedingly creative and catchy lyrics like "the stars are shining like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun" have utterly hooked me. Yes, this album is different from "Hot Fuss," but in a good way. "Sam's Town" has a more mature feel to it (which may be why so many here have utterly slagged it off), and I think that's because Flowers is honing his storytelling skills. I don't share others' sentiments that the band is "cocky," but even if they are, they have more talent in their little fingers than many so-called popular musicians today. After producing two fine albums, this one better than the first, they have every right to be. Long live the Killers!

hayoush Rating: 9.0

there is no doubt that the killers changed my entire prepective on music before the killers all i could listen too was gangta rap but the catchy lyrics of somebody told me got me
hoockedddddddddddddd. sam's town is not the ground breaking hot fuss but hey not a day goes by without me not listening to sam's town and just enjoying it from the amazing interlude till the charming all-together exitlude.

so why not a perfect 10 u ask because deep deep inside i like hot fuss better im just crazy about the guitar riffs and the keyboard solos of mr. flowers on "On top" and on "jenny"!

but still sam's town is a recored i highly reccomend.

Go killersssssssssssss

Justin Rating: 10.0

I really don't understand why everyone thinks that a band is supposed to put out the same cd fourteen times in a row. The beauty of actual musicianship is that a band can move on a do different things. It isn't hard to do the same song over and over; there are washed up singers all over the strip in Vegas that have been doing that for years. And to those that seem to have a problem with the writing done on this album I would advise consulting a dictionary- you have a long way to go before you can criticize what these guys have done on this cd when you can't even spell. (And this says nothing of those that posted that have a problem even putting a coherent thought into sentence form or the ones that have to curse every three words.) And finally, to those that think The Killers have gotten cocky, I've got news for you- they've always been that way. It's part of what has made them so intriguing, though I'm not entirely sure what has everyone convinced that they are full of themselves. I would think it would be wise to not judge until you actually meet them. Finally, to those that are upset that this cd sounds a bit like U2 or others: U2 has been around for years and has defined much of the genre so it's natural that every now and then a song will have a bit of a nod in there direction. Those men have paid their dues and are gods because of what they've done in their careers. It's completely assinine to think that anyone would just not put a song out because it might sound a bit like U2- I would think that's a positive.

LYD1A Rating: 5.0

The Killers are a good band but now Flowers has changed his voice and he is full of himself, but he is hot and there new album is o.k. but cannot live up to the standards of Hot Fuss!!! in my opinion!!!

MADDY 456 Rating: 9.0

This is so awesome!!!! i loved hot fuss so much and this one almost lives up to hot fuss but not quite. i still love the killers!!! i just saw there concert and they were great especially because they did some songs from hot fuss as well as all the other ones from sams town. the killers are awesome. i know that the band has changed there voice a little but thats wat make them the better band!! i dont understand why people think that they are supposed to have the same voice for all there CD's anyway. KEEP ROCKING KILLERS!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!! :-D

BobbyV Rating: 10.0

Nice to read all the comments and to be honest they are all very recognizable. We loved Hot Fuss and when we got Sams Town I was quite confused...It was just not clicking and we were pretty disappointed. Then we put it in our car and traveled half of Florida listening to it, and amazingly the album grew and grew on us.

Highlights are "When you were Young", "Read My Mind", "Reasons Unknown", Sams Town (except maybe the weird end), "My List".

Yes this album is totally differnt from Hot Fuss, but when we now want to listen to a great album we put on this more times then Hot Fuss (which is still one of our favorite albums as well, but loses power after the first half).

We can understand all the criticism as well, because this album is quite different, but as said in a good way. Quite sure the 3rd Album will be a shock as well, but hey that makes it all so great

A.J. Rating: 10.0

This album took me completly by surprise. At first I was like, "This is really different, I don't know if I like it." But then I relised that they must of taken them a lot of guts to try something completly different. Even if you don't like their music you should still respect them for their courage. I give them a 10. Go Killers!!!!

Sandy Rating: 10.0

Before buying "Sam's Town", I thought The Killers were an ok band. It took a while to grow on me (that seems frequent), but grow it did!! It's the one album I don't get tired of. Having seen them live twice, I've become a hard core fan.

I truly appreciate how versatile The Killers are, and the fact that they are totally credible!

Love or hate "Sam's Town", most people seem to do so with a passion. And that's kinda the point, isn't it? Passion ;o)

sky Rating: 10.0

perfect album i think they matured in their sound and songwriting i like Sams Town way better than Hot Fuss the songs on the whole album are worth listening to over and over there is not one song i dislike

total fan Rating: 10.0

The Killers are different, they'll never be the same as one Bruce Springsteen (E!Online) or any other artist or band. Their albums arent as different as lead on to be, you just need to sit back and listen. You can always count on them having a new sound that will be in your head all day long. So stop judging them and just listen to their stuff if you enjoy it and don't if you don't enjoy it.
