The pristine sound and hushed majesty of tracks like ''Hamburg Song'' and ''Try Again'' are seductive enough, but it's Tom Chaplin's lovelorn lyrics and overwrought near falsetto that really hook you.

Like the choirboy who discovered rock music and started wearing a hoody, Keane are keen to shed their nice boy image and up their Trump Card cool rating from a one to a 10. But wait - won't their earlier fop-pop exploits allow the movers and shakers to dismiss them as saccharine Susans forevermore? Well, probably, yes; but that's not really the point, is it?

Under the Iron Sea makes a fair case for Keane to be recategorised as a power trio.

An excellent new album by the group of three childhood friends who have managed to remain down to earth while making great music.

What they have done, to their credit, is take the best elements from those bands - Radiohead's soaring melodies, U2's scope and volume, Coldplay's dogged earnestness - and combine them into something that, for much of Under The Iron Sea's running time, is a perfectly respectable alternative to, say

Keane’s lyrics are still bland, lovelorn doggerel about nothing in particular, but the musical pastiches are (whisper it) brilliantly done. It’s not a sequel, more an upgrade that renders ‘Hopes And Fears’ almost redundant.

It's not bad - which is just as well, as it will be inescapable.

This album proves, once again, that Keane is the greatest band around. They write meaningful lyrics, that aren't too sappy, with soft keyboards in the background. It's a masterpiece. |

here in Colombia, this band is not so popular like other ones, but i think is one of the best, this album is not so good like the first one, but i still love them. thank you keane for all your music, and keep on doing the same for years. |

Not as surprising as "Hopes and Feares", though equal in quality. If your sick and tired of hearing that Coldplay guy, this is a very good (i.m.o. even better) substitute. Sorry for this comparison, but it's to evident not to mention. |

This one and 'hopes and fears' are for me two reasons to be keen on keane! This album is so great. Tom's beautifull voice and Tim's/richards beautiful playings.. forever in my heart, the moment when I heard this album for the first time! |

This band is the best of the world...the songs of "Under The Iron Sea" are very good... I like Keane because its music is very melodic and because the voice of Tom is spectacular... I'm from Chile, and here isn't very popular, but is emphasized for its "electric piano" and the not use of a guitar. |

Perfect album. Songs like Atlantic, Nothing In My Way, Crystal Ball and A Bad Dream make it even better than Hopes and Fears. Full with emotion and personal feelings about everything around, Under The Iron Sea is just great. Great lyrics too. |

Was very looking forward to buying this CD as I really liked "Hopes & Fears". Disappointingly, the new album "Under the Iron Seas" doesn't live up to the previous success. In all fairness, the new album is definitely different from the first, however, like many 2nd albums, have failed miserably to become a better album. |

MAybe it was just me but this album was the soundtrack for 2006. From the first time I heard Atlantic I will never forget it, it was late at night and I was searching Itunes for some new music, the album was new and was high up on the download list and after hearing a few 30 second samples I bought the whole album and listened to the first five tracks and was blown away! It had been a long time since hearing new material from a new band and to have it be that good right out of the gate, amazing. Yes i have bought their first album since and find it good but not as good as their second effort. |

"Under The Iron Sea", though very different from it's predecessor, has a pristine sound, and beautiful lyrics, and in my mind is totally unique from other albums out there.
Yes, "Hopes and Fears", is hard to follow, nevertheless, after waiting a long while for the second album to come out, I wasn't at all disappointed, especially with tracks such as, "The Frog Prince", "Crystal Ball, and "Is it Any Wonder?".
With lyrics you can relate to many a situation, it's easy to see why, "Under The Iron Sea", did so well last year, and why, this band, and their astounding vocalist, Tom Chaplin, aren't going anywhere other than up, any time soon. |

Keane is a fantastic band. This album definately exceeds its previous, Hopes and Fears (although that album was great as well). Favs are definately nothing in my way,the frog prince,a bad dream and atlantic.

This album is amazing. Definitely different than the first, but not worse at all; maybe even better. I can't wait to hear it live May 27th because it is one of the best albums I've ever heard. |

I think this album is proving that Keane is one of the best bands ever! They write lyrics that actually are one of the "Never-seen-anything-like-that"-songs.But it's wery different from the first, but VERY good :P |

An ambitious, inspiring, and ultimately endearing set of songs that glisten with refreshing, pure atmospherics. Graceful, beautiful and heartbreaking. |
