Ludacris reached a new plateau and opened up a whole new dimension with this project. It's timing. He couldn't have recorded Release Therapy before Back For The First Time or Word Of Mouf. He needed those to make this. He needed to walk before he could run. And ladies and gentlemen, Ludacris is here.

With plenty of jabs at the competition, club tracks and a few for the ladies, Release Therapy aims to remind audiences that he's not a rapper turned actor, but a musical threat to the industry.

In his fifth disc, titled Release Therapy, Ludacris struggles to show off his earnest side with tunes like "Mouths to Feed" and "War with God." And although he presents a somber new image (Goodbye, cornrows! Hello, J. Crew!), the southern rapper is still not ready to completely give up on the sleaze, unleashing "Shake Your Money Maker" and "Woozy" on the world.

One day, Ludacris is gonna finally release that definitively great album he’s yet to deliver but everyone knows he’s clearly capable of. Unfortunately, Release Therapy isn’t one of those either.

For the first half of his fifth album, it's business as usual with "the bedroom gangster" playing to the gallery on Girls Gone Wild and calls on arse-obsessed Pharrell Williams to provide the beats and chorus for Money Maker. The second half finds Ludacris maturing swiftly, as he warns on Tell It Like It Is: "There about to be some grown folks talking here." On Do Your Time he deglamourises the gangsta lifestyle, and Mary J Blige joins him for Runaway Love, which deals with violence against women.

The idea behind this fifth Luda disc is that some songs are supposed to be "release" and some are "therapy."

Release Therapy is probably Luda's best album since Back for the First Time, but it's not like that's saying much.

Ludacris has created the most uneven album of his career, so frontloaded it might as well be an EP, but the sentiment's vibe enough to keep the emcee endearing.

Man Ludacris is the hottest rapper to ever be on the face of this planet. If you gave him anything under a ten there is something seriously wrong with your life. On a scale of 1-10 I give Cristopher "Ludacris" Bridges a 100!! |

Definately Luda's best work yet. This is the Cd with the most depth and soul yet. It is clear to see with tracks such as "Grew up a screw up" Ludacris breaking through barriers to get through to his audience. |

I don't care what nobody says!!! This cd goes hard!!! I mean this cd is like one of the few cd's I actually listened to all the way through!! To me on this cd he is trying to show people that he deserves as much respect as any other rapper and it is time you give it to him. That proves it all in songs like Mouth To Feed, Tell It Like It Is, and War With God!! This album is the best!!! |

Ludacris is the best rapper today, but there are better lyrisist out there like Nas and all those other old school MCs. What I mean is that it's good to be lyrical like nas, but really how many hits has he put out that you care about besides a few. Luda has hits, lyrics, and beats so in that since he is denfinetaly the BEST rapper today. T.I. in reality is not close to Luda's level, and T.I.'s career is built mostly on street cred rather than pure skill. Just see how Luda put T.I. in his place on Young Buck's song (STOMP) on you tube. Showed that rookie who the real king is, and that there is no comparision to them. |
