The Oakland pop punk band is back with an array of sounds. It is probably the most diverse punk album I've ever heard. It's an extremely experimental album and if you like Motion City Soundtrack you'll like these guys.

I fully expect this album to be extremely polarizing. Love it or hate it - there doesn't seem to be a middle ground. In fact, I think this album's biggest flaw is setting the standard so high that their follow-up won't be able to live up to my newly set expectations.

Decomposer employs nine different producers, and despite the pop punk pedigree of most of them (John Feldmann, Tim Armstrong, Mark Hoppus, Brett Gurewitz), the band sounds more like a Sub Pop act than an Epitaph band (think Hot Hot Heat not Pennywise).

The downside to Decomposer is that although nearly all of the 13 tracks are distinctive on their own, the compilation of them in one single recording makes for a misfit of a listen, strewn with fantastic highs, and awkward lows.

Every track on the new album from The Matches is in a different style, retelling a different story, with almost a different producer every time. It lends to little but incoherence.
