Eat finds an older Manson registering as more creepy than scary, but still cranking out some honest-to-Goth big-time rockers.

The weird, dark, twisted world of Marilyn Manson is exposed as never before on new album Eat Me, Drink Me, his most commercial and [arguably] exhilarating release to date.

The idea of Marilyn Manson making a record this good, will make the haters dismiss it even harder. But the ones willing to give it a chance, will find a record that its worthy of the biggest honors.

On Eat Me, Drink Me, Manson bares himself lyrically and explores new musical avenues, mostly leaving behind the heavy, violent style of his recent past. Having alienated nearly everyone he's worked with over the years, Manson recorded the album with just one collaborator, bassist Tim Skold, whose guitar work is one of the record's highlights.

Some of Eat Me, Drink Me is ho-hum and bone-dry, with few hot choruses and even fewer chord changes. But unlike those breast implants he once had, it's nothing to be embarrassed about.

The songs and Ziggy guitar solos are more accessible than usual. Manson can croak like an undead, but can't sing to save his life.

Succinctly as possible, this is a poor show from a man whose showmanship, on screen and off it, will be his epitaph. Mercifully, this album shouldn’t even be a footnote – it’s no nadir, for sure, but it sure isn’t any good.

Certainly, it somewhat pops the bubble of the hardcore performance artist with evil running through his veins and death tattooed on his heart. In all honesty, Marilyn Manson probably a pussycat who loves his mum and a round of golf. In other words, it's time for America to stop worrying and start searching for the next bete-noire anti-hero of the trenchcoat mafia. Bring on "666 Idol" - coming soon to a screen near you...

There was a time when Marilyn Manson seemed to be one of the most important performers on the planet. He had middle America rocked (like pretty much any metal band you'd care to mention). He was named as one of the causes of the Columbine shootings, gave great interviews, and he made some pretty damn fine records too.

Brian Warner's a smart dude. Smart enough to feel the artistic pinch his Marilyn Manson persona must be putting on him at this point. Eat Me, Drink Me attempts to break from the confines that a decade of suburbanized evil left Manson. It's not as easy to escape as he might think: Eat Me, Drink Me pays homage to the Manson monster as much as it tries to outgrow it. Warner might have sold his soul, at least the artistic portion of it, but it wasn't to Satan. It's to Marilyn Manson, who has him locked into a Goth-metal hell for eternity.

Sadly his sixth studio album is desperately listless, flitting between indie mediocrity on They Said that Hell’s Not Hot and the hapless 1980s funk-rock of the single Heart Shaped Glasses. You and Me and the Devil Makes 3 is a great title though.

i think this is the classic manson and that he did a great job at doing what he does best; being himself. the lyrical content is quite satisfying and everything else just falls into place. i would highly recommend it. |

It sounds different, but isn't that what a new album is about? I really like it. It has a dark twist and I love it. It is absolutely amazing. |

I think that the album is amazing; I have been a huge manson fan for years; this is him at his peak and his genius is showing; i will admitt his albums have been alot more gothic and metal; but this is him in him relaxed state doing what he does best; being marilyn manson. i think he did an amazing job; i recommend this CD to ALL manson fans. |

Mixed content. Some songs are pure GENIUS, heart shaped glasses, vampire, putting holes in happiness and I liked the raw guitars and the equally raw solos then other songs brought the mood to a crawl and the last song nearly pushed it off a cliff. Not too fond of the devil song either. So I hear it mixed. |

It's different and sounds good. I think this is his most sincere album yet. This is Marilyn Manson not in your face but dark and differeny |

This is possibly the most debatable record Manson has made to date...more toned down and moodier than usual, this record is both a departure from, and a return to, the Manson we know and love. While the lyrics are obviously Dita von Teese inspired, the creepy and sometimes odd music that is a staple of classic Marilyn Manson is still there and just as catchy as ever. It's true that his vocals on this record are somewhat grating, but hey, his imperfections are what made us adore him in the first place. "Eat Me, Drink Me" is definitely worth the listen; I highly recommend! |

There is too much different from his old stuff. The music lacks some feeling that was there on Manson's older tracks. There is more feeling in the lyrics which have changed from "i hate god and the world" to "i hate my ex-wife." There is no upbeat or hard rock listens... honestly, i use this cd to sleep now. I still like it, but not better than his old cd's. |

its good,i agree with kevo, its soo different from his old stuff you cant compare with the other albums... but i think they've evolved so much over the years and the whole shock rock thing is maybe warring off? i still love the band though, if i was your vampire, evidence and heart shaped glasses are among my favourites. I hope its sucessful, at least its not as badly written as antichrist superstar when only 4 songs were good - beautiful people, dried up and tied up,angel with scabbed wings and reflecting god. whereas most of the songs on this track are good in the fact they melt into each other |

I think this album really showed a different side of Marilyn Manson. I think its lyrical content is just as good or better then his old albums. There is still meaning behind every word. No, this album doesnt contain the hating world Manson we came to love. But, it does contain the softer, more emotional side of him. I mean his wife just left him, what do you expect? But overall I loved this album. Its amazing. And Manson is more amazing then ever! |

At first i thought it was horrible wouldnt leave it in for 4 mins without taking it out.. until i picked up SPIN and read what it was all about...then i put it back in and listenend and realized this is just pure emotion..he used to take it out on the world but now he got his influence from dita von teese manson's lifestyle to von teese was him living as a "vampire" with his most artistic time being 3-5 am. hence "if i was your vampire" its an amazing cd.. manson has and always will be an idol to me. |

it's really dark but it hasn't the "energy" that the older albums had...it is most like manson's legasy to the feature shock-rockers...maybe manson desided to show his true seelf , the one behind the anger and the revolutionary spirit...this is the TRUE manson guys hope u like him |

This was not quite what I was expecting. However, it is still an amazing album. This is not the anti-government and -society side of manson that we've been exposed to in the past. The is his personal life on a platter for all of us to experience. In my opinion, it took A LOT of balls for manson to expose himself as he did on this album. it is absolutely great. Wonder what's next?? |

I think this album makes it up there with the rest of his albums. True he seems to have lost his thrasher feel, but I think it's good to get away from the same style from time to time. It's full of passion and emotion, and the lyrics are extremely deep. I give it an 8 because a couple of the songs have strayed too far from his original work and approach too close to pop beats and such. The song "Heart shaped Glasses" is a prime example. It's just a song that get's him publicity among the general alternative world. It's a great album. Change is good. |

This is definitely nothing like Manson's older records. It sounds like Dita Von Teese wrote the lyrics. It's totally not Brian Warner. He's done better and I was expecting other things, but I am disappointed. I still have respect for the man though. |

This album is HORRIBLE. Poorly composed and absolute dull lyrics. If you are a fan of any albums created by Marilyn Manson, Eat Me, Drink Me will disappoint you. |

This album isn't him, I can see that he is trying to be more mature and his age, but this album is not the manson that i love.He hasn't changed which is wonderful, but his music has. but hey! don't get me wrong i love manson no matter what he does. his other albums such as:Mechanical animals, antichrist superstar,holywood...ect. were the reason why he was ashock-rocker, and i don't think that name remains much more. I realize that I'm only a teenager but loved him since i was 7, what happend to the manson? |

Definately a change from Manson's older stuff, but it still rocks hardcore. This is his way of saying "Okay, let's go to the studio, come up with something completely different." Heart Shaped Glasses is a huge example of this. Not as catchy or as dark as some of his older works, but that's what a new album is, an evolution of sound and lyric to a different level. Great work. |

Upon first listening to "Eat Me, Drink Me", I was a little disappointed to not hear much of the 'old Manson' style that MM fans are used to. The lyrics are drastically different than on other albums, with more of a feel of Manson's personal life rather than the controversial lyrics normally present. This may be a taste of things to come, or the style of "Eat Me, Drink Me" may have run its course. All in all, a good album, albeit not what I was expecting. |

Marilyn Manson's new album Eat Me, Drink Me is definatly something quite different from say Mechanical Animals. This album shows Manson's metamorphosis over the years but also maintains the dark, gothic sound we've come accustom to. With great lyrics and an intruiging sound Eat Me, Drink Me is one of Manson's best. |

the new album just doesnt define itself like the others did, it doesnt seem to stand out like all the old manson albums did, anti christ superstar, mechanical animals, a space age theme ect. the lyrics are bland and I was very dissapointed. I excpected more. In my opinion, there's more to life then your girfriend leaving you, so keep emotions seprate from the issues that drove you to make great music manson. |
