The Rosebuds third album, Night of the Furies, ditches the indie signifiers that blurred the aural distinction between them and a clutch of early noughties indie acts. Guitars are buried in the mix; nostalgic whimsy is beaten into something darker. It’s not exactly a scaling-back—there’s still plenty going on in these rich, dark-chocolate songs—but as the Rosebuds have streamlined to two full time members, so the songs no longer sound like cheerful committee-efforts wrestled to a cozy, amicable standstill in the middle of Indie Park.   Full text...
