More than a decade on, Williams has dealt with another career crossroads in the only way he knows how — by doing exactly as he pleases.

Undoubtedly one of the year's strangest releases, you get the sense that this hotchpotch of cover versions, Streets-style rapping and '80s electro pop was intended to be Robbie's "Achtung Baby".

On his seventh solo set Rudebox, he takes a hard left turn into '80s electro-pop -- a move that seems somewhere between deliberately suicidal and diabolically insolent. Ironically, though, it also takes him on the most adventurous and edgy trip of his career.

The album is, in musical terms, probably his most intriguing, but its biggest stumbling-block is Williams's lyrical pretensions.

A scant handful of highlights aside, it is packed with half-baked ideas, bad jokes, music that any other star of Williams' stature would be terrified of the general public hearing.

Another year, another Robbie Williams album - and we're only just clear of the last single from his 2005 effort, Intensive Care. Rudebox's title track, released as a baffling lead single based on Sly & Robbie's melody line from Boops (Here To Go), isn't particularly indicative of the sprawlingly bold variety of the parent record. But Rudebox is not without its problems.

the albums alright but i think some of the songs are in a nice way, rubbish. But lovelight is one of the best songs on the album, but it still is not the robbie everybody used to know. He might be trying to change but he isn't doing a very good job of it. I still like him loads but i think he needs to experiment with other songwriters a little. I would still recomend buying the album but in my eyes only 6 of the songs on the album are good!!! |

This album is fantastic!and also pretty brave of Rob to be experimenting after being so successful. In 1 of the songs it's also got my cousins full name in and he's a huge fan so you can just imagine what he thinks of Robbie's album. He's chuffed to bits and so am i!!!!! |

Coming from a huge Robbie fan, I must say I am so so disappoined with this album. If you like the Robbie of old I would not recommend buying it, there rae maybe 4 or 5 good songs the rest is just cringeworthy! |

I bought the album as soon as it was released... yes I'm a mad fan!!! But to be honest I was very shocked. 1st I thought, "Oh.My.God. What has he done?" but after listening to it a few times, I can now say "what a fab album". Rob has done a great job with this. Thank god for singer's like him who leave their safe zone and try something new! If it wasn't for Robbie, the pop world would be boring! Well done Mr Williams... I'm loving your work!!! |

Robbie, if you really like this album, your songs ok. You must feel good with yourself. No matter what the others says. Keep doing things that you like, firstly for yorself and then for the others. Do what you wanna do, but think what are you doing. |

Compared with Justin's new album, I could say Rudebox just can't bring you suprise at your first heard. Frankly, I loved Robbie a lot and I think it lasts longer after non-stop listening it. |

Another Superb album by the fantastic Robbie Williams. He just gets better and better!!! Some retro tunes and some covers of Human League and Stephen "Tin-Tin" Duffy. Keep it coming Robbie!!! |

I admire Robbie. For all that he's accomplished. But i was not thrilled. Sadly, 'Rudebox' is not 'Escapology'. I love the '90's' song though. It's so sweet and personal and that's why it's so special. The best from Robbie is yet to come!!!!! |

just been reading a lot of critical articles about the album. it is one of the best i have ever heard and the man deserves to be commended, not slated, for this brave, adventurous album of excellent music, lyrics and humour. |

If you want to know how RW became famous, definatelly you need to listen to his other albuns, because this Rudebox is really strange. Doesn't seem like a Robbie Williams Album. |

I have loved Robbie Williams other albums - what went wrong with this one? It is like he doesn't care about his fans. I love 80's music but this sounds like ELO on a bad day. He can sing, but he is a bad wrapper - why did he even try????? (And why so much on this album.)
Very disappointed. If anyone would like to buy my copy of rudebox for 50p, I would feel that it was overpriced by 49p.
Avoid. |

This album is amazing. Robbie has though 'stuff it' to anyone who thinks he should follow a set rule about the type of music he should make, and i think he's been amazinly brave. This ablum has some excellent songs and some that just blow you away. Lovelight is by far my faviourite and i want more. Keep it up Robbie. |

This is a great album, different from what we are used to listen from Robbie but still great. Now I'm totally convinced that Robbie can do whatever he likes to and still be so f*cking amazing |

This album is brilliant. Its Robbie at his best. A couple of the songs are not so good but I usually find that with all his cds. |

Just a few songs are good enough to be listened, and even they are not as good as the worst song he could ever have sung, along his previous albums. Every singer must find a way in some kind of evolution, but he's not going in the right direction, I think... |

I give this album a 10 and I will tell you why - because this album will guarantee that there will not be another from Robbie. This is so terrible, he will be dropped by his record label while the band he left and tried to arrogantly steal the sound of rise high in their success. |

i was very disappointed with this album i am a huge fan of robbie because in his previous albums the songs had meaning and depth where people could relate to what he was singing.his new album rudebox is quite the opposite, with songs about... well really nothing at all. |

Rubbish!!! it smealt of poo how could robbie honestly think he has the street cred to start rapping, he is rolling in riches and has had a decent childhood...mayby it is because he is in denial about being gay??!! :) |

I hear robbie fans mooing about robbie "losing his touch" or "making songs with no depth".. but , I have to disagree with them on that, since this album is the one thing from robbie that actually sounds like it's genuine. Yes it's errattic, yes it's a big frickin joke, and yes it IS oldschool! This is what robbie is, he is from that time and he pays homage to that, but I also think he's finally doing what he originally wanted to do, namely go crazy :D
There are however, two songs I take offense with on this album and that's "laura" and "burslem normals" which both sound like dirges to me. However, the rest are excellent examples of how a born entertainer can take something and completly screw it over :D |

I'm not sure how the entire album is. But the first three releases are pretty good, especially the newest one 'She's Madonna'. That's a very interesting track...i love it. I wonder if madonnas' gonna feel the same way ;-) |

Strange album, total mixture as if he's grabbing at any music style. Rudebox was a bad choice as the first single - it alienated a large part of his fan base as shown by the relatively poor album sales. She's Madonna would've been much better first single. I was surprised it only made no.16 in charts (probably cos fans already had it on the album). All in all a disappointing album. |

I love the new album of robbie williams beacause he has got very imagination and it's very cool. Robbie Williams doing rap it's amazing and i like it! I don't undersatand why the others (pablo, alex, dangermouse and saintte) think's that "he goes to the bad direction", "the new album is the opposite, white song's... well realy nothing at all", "is gay" or "the album is strange"! And now i'm gonna doing a question for them: Do you all know what are you telling? The album is amazing, very imagination and i think: Rating: 10!! Congratulations Robbie, you're song's are 5 stars ***** !! |

Yep, this is nothing like other Robbie discs ... which is quite refreshing, acutally. I've yet to be disappointed with any of his releases.... only the fact that America doesn't know who he is. Artists need to grow.... I for one am thrilled he didn't release another album that is a lot like the ones before it... |
