The title and cover of this album have an interesting coherency that meshes with the band itself. Much like the California landscape, which is one of extreme variance both geological and social, this is a band that has indulged in various styles throughout its existence. Disciples of California was recorded mostly outdoors and is bountiful with pastoral mostly acoustic guitars and an adept mix of droopiness. The harmonies are blanketed one atop another as a slow psychedelic drizzle built upon a foundation of meat and potatoes psychedelic druthers and a raggedy sunshine pop absolution with some alt-country touches.   Full text...
