With tracks like "Panthers in Crime," Make History presents itself in the best way an album should—familiar, yet more confident, and even a little more epic. To wit: "The Veil Comes Down," at first a quirky, synth-fueled indie pop track, yet an anthem at heart, rocking furiously (as you may remember, that is one of their settings).

That piece of disposable homage overshadowed the higher-quality release, with its multicultural bombast and dance rhythms inclusive enough for those indie-lovers closest to the mainstream.

Make History is full of synths, angular guitars, tight rhythms, and accessible pop melodies. But while Justamustache was completely kick-ass and highly infectious, History ends up being tired and about as catchy as Randy Moss has been since Aaron Brooks joined the Raiders.

Once again returning to the same new wave/punk basics of its first two albums, the Detroit combo attempts to outlast the now-collapsing dance-punk thing by propping its sound up with a hearty dose of pop, though the new direction makes it sound as if the band's learned its punk and new wave history solely from VH1 flashbacks and modern pop-punk acts' cameos on MTV's rare music-related television shows.
