Shock Value is a remarkable Pop music that just happens to be Hip-Hop.  Full text...

Los Angeles Times Rating: 7.5

Timbaland's laser-focused sense of what pop should sound like has changed not only hip-hop but vast areas of pop, and it's solidified here in daring beats and masterful arrangements. Yet the narrative pull that justifies the album format falls short.  Full text...

Sputnikmusic.com Rating: 7.0

Timbaland’s production is likewise a mixed affair, sometimes showing clever touches, but occasionally making bland production decisions or overwhelming the guest vocals. Timbaland may still end up claiming 2007 as his own, but Shock Value will only be backing evidence, rather than the landmark album that propelled his name to the top of the pop world.  Full text...

Slant Magazine Rating: 6.0

When you're an auteur, your sound is, by definition, distinct and, thus, your range is often limited. Shock Value recycles many of the same beats, melodies, and other sonic ideas that were used (better and most recently, with help from co-producer Danja) on Timberlake's album.  Full text...

Shock Value might have its moments but it’s often indigestible.  Full text...

RollingStone Rating: 6.0

The entire disc has a dark, futuristic mode, with Tim using rhythm instruments like riffs and giving you beat candy in different flavors; even his rhymes don't get in the way too much.  Full text...

NME Rating: 5.0

The beats here are as staggering as ever, but of an indulgent 19 tracks, none sound like they were good enough to give to anybody else: creatively charitable for sure, but the fact that the staggering music he's made with Björk has been left off for a future project tells you all you need to know.  Full text...

PitchFork Rating: 4.1

As bad as this album is, it's not offensive enough to worry about for too long; if its contents were split up into 17 singles and B-sides and one-shots and scattered across the charts for 15 months, it'd hardly be worth worrying about.  Full text...

Lumpen, bloated, boring album...  Full text...

Timbland is trully changing POP to HIP HOP and HIP HOP to POP. He's the architect of the NEW MUSIC. Give credit to this master.

solid album, songs like oh timbaland and kill yourself are tight. some of the songs have some weak beats though.

Shock Value is an incredible album. i don't know what people expect out of music and artists. they complain hip hop is senseless and rap about violence, then we do uplifting songs and win grammys for it. then they say hip hop just steals from other artists music, then timbaland does some space age sounding, electronic beats and collaborates with many rock acts and makes good songs and you give his album anything less than a 7 is a shame. he's the best producer in hip hop and if he wanted to, he can take over the pop charts, give respect where its due.

I think the album is very solid. very creative and it shows tims skill to mix it up and be able to make music with anyone.

I have to say that this album is as fabulous as Timbaland himself. Love almost every single beat, with a bit surprising tracks as ONE & ONLY,
beautiful TIME or APPOLOGIZE. Perfect. Tracks with JT are hot as well but we already know theyre good pals when it comes to music. And hot BOUNCE with Missy is hope next big hit...
Timbaland rulezzzzz! Ha!

I was given this album for free and I paid too much. This was the most godawful crap that I have ever heard. He is a great producer, but should not be behind the mike. Out of 19 songs only 4 are good. Heaven help the music!
