Trivium's songs are mostly taken straight from the headlines -- though their newspaper must be late, because some of the stories are at least five years old. "Entrance of the Conflagration" is about Andrea Yates, who drowned her five children in 2001, and "Contempt Breeds Contamination" is about the 1999 killing of Amadou Diallo by the NYPD.

The Crusade shows that Trivium have laboured to create a much more palatable sound, and while they have stolen all of their heroes’ favourite riffs they have managed to walk away without looking like a shifty handbag thief. Instead, they have constructed a solid album that will prove to be very, very popular with young and old alike.

Trivium have mapped out their career so far exactly as a fist-bitingly young band should by producing two quality albums and touring, touring and then touring some more. Inevitably, therefore, most of The Crusade was written on the road and the band have promised their burgeoning fanbase an evolution in sound. However, after listening to it one wonders if all Trivium's supporting of the old masters of metal has left the young guns a bit star-struck.

Most bands exist to make money, but most aren't as blatant about it as this.

Wait, what’s going on? Wasn’t Master of Puppets released in 1986? When did Metallica hire a band of teenagers to re-record it? And why did they make the mistake of mixing it with a recent metalcore trend?

Ugh, they're trying to rip off Metallica. It wasn't bad, but not NEARLY as good as Ascendancy... Anthem sounds disturbingly like Metallica's Through the Never... |

some might throw down trivium for combining a early 80's metallica voice with a metalcore music and at times screaming.but for me its wat i've been lookin for for a long time.i like some aspects of hardcore and metalcore.but the screaming always turned me off to it.this album is a great way to combine the two.and if you like ride the lightning and master of puppets.wouldnt you like this album.the awnser for me is yes |

Great album, good structured songs and clever guitar riffs. Matt's singing is much better than previous songs, but they do whats best for the music, and thats to make it sound good. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Oatis. p.s. ROCK ON!! |
| I like original riffs. |

I didn't mind Trivium but with this album I vomited in disgust at their blatant stolens riffs and lack of groundbreaking material. Matt Heafy is a douche, I once though he wasn't bad but now hes just trying to get rich off plagiarised material and thats just not cool. |
