Endless Wire does sound undernourished alongside The Who Sell Out or Who’s Next, totemic albums from more than three decades ago. Unlike their later albums, though, it never tries too hard, never attempts to touch the Zeitgeist: it gets by on its self-deprecating, daffy charisma quite nicely.   Full text...

With Endless Wire, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, and four other guys who are really talented but whom you don’t care about even if they’ve been more or less bandmates for a long time, come back to make a big statement. Or possibly no statement at all, depending on how you want to look at it.  Full text...

The songs of Endless Wire are mature, sad, hopeful, meloncholy even. And the album has the sound of two old rockers making one last stand. It could of been more, but with Townshend in complete control this was most likely the album he intended to make, more or less.  Full text...

Madly ambitious and deeply heartfelt, it's a grand folly in the great tradition of Brish rock.  Full text...

The Independent Rating: 4.0

With both Moon and Entwistle gone, there's only half of The Who left - sadly appropriate, as this is only half a Who album, really.  Full text...

Excellent album

Very good album by the Who. I'm only 17, and I've only listened to the Who for 5 years, however I am a seasoned veteran when it comes t the Who. It isn't their best, and it isn't their worst, it's in between. The first single off the album (Its not Enough) is a great song, and though a bit repeptitive, sounds fantastic when turned up really loud. Mike Post Theme is also a gem. The opera on the second half of the album is also very good. Very much like Tommy, it is comprised mainly by 3:00 or so songs or less. Great album, cannot wait to see them here in T.O in December.

Wow. Much more than I expected. Pete and Roger actually put some time into this one. Well done. As a 25-year Who fan, this album is on par with It's Hard, an album I bought in high school. The question, Pete, is when are you going to out-do Empty Glass? I am still waiting, Pete!

The Who, even without Kieth and John, still are rock and roll royalty. This album,"Endless Wire", was put together by the brains of the original Who. This is the WHO!! Very Mature, Very Talented, Very Impressive! This album is no let down, like I thought it might be. Thanx Roger and Pete!!!

In all honesty folks, if you can't find a way to enjoy this little gem from The Who then call it a day and just stop listening to music. It's a wonderful musical treat, period!

The real problem with rating this album is that there too many classics in The Who cannon. That being said, there are some good songs in here. What I find most interesting is that the Album is almost like a history lesson of the who, filled with inside jokes and references. If this is the Last Who album it makes a much better end point than It's Hard....

The songs have embedded themselves in the conscience after a few plays. A strong album. Who would have thought it??

Very impressed with this new album from The Who.
Pete Townshend is still one of the best songwriters of the last 50 years. Roger Daltrey too, still has a great voice. I know I keep playing it over and over again even though I have a library of around 1000 songs to choose from. The Who are still alive and kicking!!

I like many elements of this album but it is only fair in terms of the enormous "Who" legacy for obvious reasons. But plenty of good ideas and boldness.

They try (Pete & Roger) to be bold again. That always been a thematic until the post-Moon capitulation but at their age(s) there has to be
some maturity in going forward. And the Who have always opined (Townshend) about the future of rock, ideas, leaders, social state, everything and this album is no different. But it badly misses diversity. It sound like the a lot like "By Numbers" out of necessity. But remember, the best Fu&3##ing rock song on that album, by far, was John's "Success Story"

"In the Ether" is pain inducing. But I like many of those other songs in context like "Mike's Post Theme", the folky "Man in the Purple Dress" and the extended versions of "We Got a Hit" and "Endless Wire". Not classic Who, however.

If Who fans wanted a real album, why not recruit Cheap Trick. They can do Who songs better than anyone.

Wow -- a great blend of the new and the old. Enough of the old "Who" for hard-core fans, yet they branch out into new territory that may well turn out to be classic music in time (e.g., Man in a Purple Dress). Wow.
