The songs on Get Behind Me Satan are sturdy.
Like previous albums, it's an even mix of soft ditties and hard-nosed romps.

This is a very brave record, but ultimately one which, after many listens, becomes as beguiling and seductive as old Nick himself.

Get Behind Me Satan is certainly an odder record than the four White Stripes albums which preceded it.

Jack has cryptically described these songs as an exploration of "characters and the ideal of truth," which apparently can be translated to despair-- and lots of it.

The album explores their musical capabilities to the full and in so doing proves they have more than a few tricks up their sleeve.

We've been waiting over two years for a follow-up, and in that context, "Get Behind Me Satan" is disappointing

All we get is a collection of solid-to-unremarkable songs about truth and longing, desire and betrayal, with hardly a real person to attach any of them to

It marks the moment when a band lays out their ambition for all to see, but it probably precedes an album where they actually shake things up by realizing that same newly self-imposed potential and promise.

Though overly simplistic in most regards, it's still an amazing album |

A good album. I enjoyed past stripes album a little more but everything they do is magic! |

The best album of the 21st century if you really appreciate what Jack is trying to bring across, which is a mixture of darkness and sadness. However, its the worst if you were expecting crashing guitars with blues solos and songs which hit you with there beauty on the first listen. |

Well at first it was hmm not my type because it pulled me away from what I was used to hearing from the White Stripes, but I began to love it more and more as I listen to it. A great peice to show off more of Jack's Keyboard/Percussion skills and draw away from being the singer/guitarist. Overall I consider this to be a great album that everyone can find at least one song on this album that relates to their life somehow. |
